Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. Responsibilities

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be able to effectively and efficiently drive the design of all aspects of the physical networking infrastructure and address any design-related issues that arise during construction for all Microsoft datacentres/co-location facilities.

Candidate will work with internal stakeholders on standards, Microsoft requirements, materials as specified; lead design workgroups and drive cross-functional meetings for multiple, concurrent projects. This individual will be tasked to manage issues, decisions and risks, drive initiatives to improve efficiency and quality to scale with the growth of Microsoft.

The successful candidate shall be responsible for all aspects of the telecom-related designs within a geographical region, be able to multitask and quickly react to challenges with a proactive, lessons learned solution creator. The Telecoms Engineer is required to manage our external Architect and Engineer’s (AE) design creation, while also independently create design deliverables as required for separate workstreams while quality checking peer workload as needed.

Design and Design Oversight:
The successful candidate will design physical networking infrastructure for Microsoft data centres and co-location facilities, addressing any issues during construction. They will assess existing facilities to ensure compliance with Microsoft standards. The role involves collaborating with partners, leading design work groups, and conducting cross-functional meetings for multiple projects.

• Provide technical support on physical network refresh and rebuilds including cable plant, pathways, and translating telecommunication requirements to other disciplines.
• Address existing condition investigations, communicate risk to relevant partners, and create telecommunication scope of work to retrofit existing facilities to latest Microsoft standards.
• Collaborate with internal and external customers and partners, including the Global Technical Governance team, Global Strategy teams, and DCE Operations Team, to utilize Base of Design documentation. This collaboration aims to create or oversee the creation of datacentre telecommunication designs, from the basis of design (BOD) to issue for construction (IFC). Additionally, manage the Construction Administration phase of the datacentre until handover for new DC project build-outs, leases, special projects, and network upgrades, with a focus on facility telecommunications.
• Partner directly with cross organizational teams such as engineering design teams, delivery teams, operations teams, contractors and suppliers.
• Provide guidance to staff augmentation A/Es and A/E Consultants.
• Highly organized and able to oversee concurrent projects and focus under pressure.
• Structured thinking and logic with very strong analytical skills.
• Strong customer service focus, with the ability to communicate with highly technical management teams.
• Creative approach to problem solving and ability to think out of the box.
• Remote site support for construction teams.
• Site visits to review all stages of the construction and ensure quality is being maintained.
