Within CO+I, the Cloud Innovation Services & Solutions team is responsible for delivering solutions and services that enable reliable cloud growth and operational excellence, including end to end program management, security, risk and governance, planning, learning and development and sustainability.

The Cloud ESG team focuses on preparing for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) requirements and market expectations, and ensuring timely and accurate disclosure.

Microsoft is seeking an Operational Integration Program Manager to join its Cloud ESG Operational Integration team and support CO+I’s ESG efforts. The candidate will be responsible for managing multiple ESG workstreams within a team accountable for translating upcoming regulations, policies, and standards, into technical, actionable plans for Microsoft’s ESG readiness. The Cloud ESG Operational Integration team will make significant contributions towards Microsoft’s leadership in the Cloud ESG ecosystem in all regions where it operates, empowering every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.

As part of this team, you will collaborate across a broad set of stakeholders, perform research, and operationalize the needed change management processes that enable Microsoft to be ready for ESG policy and competitive issues that the Cloud Computing and Services industry face.

You will bootstrap process and standard design change within the organization, acting as a Program Manager and technical SME. You will scope and evaluate foresight signals that may lead Microsoft to adapt to new mandatory and voluntary policies and standards. You will help develop mechanisms and processes to streamline the adoption of requirements and leverage current processes with the objective of reinforcing Microsoft’s ESG market leadership placement.

This position requires leadership, strategic impact analysis skills and strong project management skills. The Cloud ESG Operational Integration Program Manager will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the organization's ESG efforts and play a key role in supporting Microsoft’s ability to meet policymakers, customers, investors, and industry ESG expectations.

Success in this role means you have harnessed the value add of ESG, translated it into an actionable strategy and contributed to building a best-in-class ESG practice.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a CO+I Cloud ESG subject matter expert to condense complex regulatory, policies and standardization requirements into engineering and operational recommendations, partnering with various stakeholders across Microsoft.

  • Program manage and engage multiple stakeholders, within ESG thematic working groups, to support the organization’s ESG strategy and ensure alignment with upcoming regulatory and policies requirements and existing corporate-wide sustainability commitments for CO+I fleetwide datacenters.

  • Collaborate in the design of aggregation and prioritization map of Microsoft customer reporting obligations that require cloud service provider data input. Identify new opportunities to support customer reporting obligations in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Organize and simplify issues and ideas in written and verbal communication to deliver clear messages to cross-functional teams and senior leadership.

  • Oversee implementation of cross-functional deliverables with a focus on resource efficiency and prioritization.

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress in alignment with ESG customer requirements and market expectations.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the organization to promote ESG best practices and drive progress on alignment with customer and Microsoft ESG performance.

  • Consult and deconstruct legal and technical requirements, with the Microsoft Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs group, and Microsoft corporate datacenter program managers to ensure that ESG policies are aligned with Microsoft public policy strategy, regulatory requirements, customer expectations and requirements to build capacity at scale.

  • Drive engagement, promote alignment to ESG requirements, and embed sustainability principles throughout the organization.

  • Provide continuous feedback and contribute to the improvement of project operational efficiencies and Microsoft’s positioning; provide recommendations to improve efficiency within broader ESG working group.

  • Management of the Operational Integration team’s trackers and program communication tools in a cross-functional teams effort, fundamental of the Sustainability and Cloud ESG organization.

Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Proven related work experience and or Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience) in Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong sustainability background and familiarity with business, technology, economics, legal, and ESG public policy. Experience in the relevant disciplines of environmental regulations, environmental due diligence, and green public procurement at the national, state, and country-level.

  • Exceptional written, presentation, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and concisely with stakeholders and leaders. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Experienced at building bridges and negotiating support with stakeholders, collaborating with diverse, cross-sector stakeholder groups particularly, EHS, legal counsel, building design and engineering.

  • Ability to influence with limited control, comfortable working through ambiguity, manage priorities independently and work across multiple time zones.

  • Proven strong Project and Program Management experience, managing multiple stakeholder teams with technical expertise.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in (or equivalent work experience) in Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related field

  • Proven track record in ESG regulatory analysis and advocacy at Regional or Global level AND Datacenter engineering, datacenter design, or deep sustainability experience in large infrastructures in Europe

  • Knowledge in Scope 1,2,3 assessment and reporting

  • Proven experience in voluntary certification schemes (LEED, BREEAM, EU CoC, ISO 50000 series)

  • Experience working in the technology industry, particularly in a cloud computing environment.

  • Experience with external-facing sustainability or ESG reporting and compliance frameworks (e.g., CDP, EU Taxonomy, CSRD, EED, EPBD).

  • Proven experience in data visualization, communications, and narrative tools.

  • Certification in data management, change management or project management (e.g., CCMP, CMS, PMP, PMI, PROSCI, etc.).
