Job Description

Systems and networking research internship at the Future of AI Infrastructure team at MSR Cambridge, an interdisciplinary team spanning systems and networking, AI, electronics, optics, and physics. We are looking for strong candidates with a Computer Science (preferably systems/networking) background with skills in systems/distributed systems/ML systems.

Responsibilities

As part of a large interdisciplinary project, you will solve research problems and build systems/prototypes that will advance the state of the art in AI infrastructures. Specifically there is a range of interesting research problems on how best to exploit recent and future advances in connectivity to maximize GPU utilization and overall performance. E.g., network topologies that exploit new interconnects and circuit switches to maximize performance per dollar or per watt; new ways to use a memory hierarchy that includes slower/remote/disaggregated memories; efficient ways to schedule and multiplex inference workloads that vary widely in their compute/memory/networking demands; techniques to use heterogenous compute hardware.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Research experience in a topic related to the internship, i.e. systems and networking. For example: distributed systems, systems for ML, networking.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or accepted to a Ph.D. program in Computer Science / Computer Engineering with a research focus in systems and networking.
