Job Description
The Machine Intelligence team at Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) is dedicated to fundamental and impactful Machine Learning research. Our broad mission is to solve challenging problems from multiple areas, including Reasoning, Knowledge Representation, Learning Algorithms and Architectures, and Efficiency. We have multiple internship opportunities covering a wide range of topics in these areas.
We are seeking a diverse set of strong ML PhD students to join us in Cambridge spring/summer 2025. You will joining a welcoming and highly collaborative environment and work on creative and challenging problems during your internship.
Responsibilities
As part of an ambitious collaborative project, you will
- Research and Develop novel Machine Learning models and algorithms.
- Design, implement and evaluate machine learning experiments.
- Write and present your findings in technical documents or papers.
Qualifications
Required
- Be enrolled in a PhD program in Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science (or related discipline).
- Deep experience in one or more of the following: LLMs (training, inference, architectures, chain-of-thought, prompt-tuning), Flow or Diffusion Models (continuous or discrete), Quantization methods, Reasoning, Knowledge Representation, ML Optimization.
- Interns are expected to be physically located in Cambridge UK.
Preferred
A subset of the following:
- Strong communication skills, especially scientific writing and communication.
- Publications in relevant conferences (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR), or high-profile scientific journals.
- Ability to code in Python, as well as familiarity with Git and code reviews.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary collaborative environment with people from different technical backgrounds.
