Job Description

Job Description:

Having quality data and integrated systems is a fundamental enabler of our sustainability accounting. In 2023 Sustainability Mission Program has defined a first framework for sustainability data, systems and business processes. With the continued maturation of the Digital Core Transformation, we have the opportunity to align all S/4 segments’ activity data into one unified data platform. Getting this right has the potential to both deliver major expansions of our capabilities to deliver sustainability management and performance and significant time and cost efficiencies vs. the current processes.

What are we looking for?

  • A sustainability data champion passionate about creating solutions that align with Mars' Five Principles.

  • A systems thinker who translates complex sustainability needs into smart, scalable data products.

  • A roll-up-your-sleeves problem solver eager to tackle ambiguity, dive into details, and bring clarity to challenges.

  • A collaborative innovator who ensures data accuracy, governance, and transparency while partnering across teams to drive impact.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • This role will ultimately lead the design & implementation of a unified data platform that serves as the reliable, methodology-aligned, and governed source of truth for all activity data going into our Sustainable in a Generation (SiG) data products. This platform will provide foundational high-quality data that aligns and matches with our source applications, allowing us to shift our focus from managing ambiguous data to aligning our efforts to enact action that benefits our SiG delivery.

Functional design

  • Provide translation from a diverse set of business needs into actionable requirements to be included in S/4, PLM, and edge applications.

  • Partner with consulting and technical teams to identify relevant data fields to satisfy requirement needs.

  • Design the sustainability data model that supports the functional requirements.

Technical build phase

  • Partner with Digital Technology and support as they define & implement the technical solution.

  • Liaison business needs and coordinate between technical analytics development and IT developers in Digital Core (SAP/cPLM).

  • Provide guidance on functional data assets, inclusive of requirements for data including but not limited to, frequency, granularity, history retention, etc.

Data Transparency

  • Implement data validation and control points to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the sustainability activity data.

  • Define UAT and validation strategies to be implemented by analytics team and signed off by relevant data owners in segment. Document and retain methods, results and sign-off.

  • Collaborate with the functional team, system integrators, analytics and governance teams to improve data quality and resolve any discrepancies as they arise.

  • Flag and articulate any gaps or inconsistencies early on.

  • Contribute to a status scorecard tracking pilot and deployment adherence to sustainability common template.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Support:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Finance, Supply Chain (P2F) , Procurement(S2P) and Segment Analytics team (PN, RC, Snacking) to align sustainability data with broader business needs.

  • Collaborate with SMP (Functional & DT) to enrich activity data with calculated metrics, labels, or classifications to make data actionable for end-users.

  • Support the “re-piping” efforts of existing SMP capabilities onto new data foundation.

  • Collaborate with SMP team on solutioning use cases on unified data platform.

  • Provide analytical support for sustainability initiatives, helping stakeholders understand and use data effectively.

  • Define and educate safe uses for various data elements & KPIs.

Governance, Controls & Documentation

  • Define requirements for documentation (E2E documentation) and ensure development team delivers required documentation and training to ensure end-users understand how to leverage the data product.

  • Determine who will have access, monitor and track how the data product is used across the functional area. Monitor and collect feedback for improvements.

Future Focused

  • Enable a use-case agnostic solution that supports both known and future use cases (including regulations) and serves as the single source of truth for sustainability activity data.

  • Stay up-to-date with sustainability data trends and regulations to ensure the platform evolves to meet future requirements.

What can you expect from Mars?

  • Work with over 140,000 diverse and talented Associates, all guided by the Five Principles.

  • Join a purpose-driven company, where we’re striving to build the world we want tomorrow, today.

  • Best-in-class learning and development support from day one, including access to our in-house Mars University.

  • An industry-competitive salary and benefits package, including company bonus.
