Mars Inc. is undergoing a digital transformation process, with a centrally led “digital core’ workstream, and segment transformation workstreams. Within Petcare, these workstreams are “EOS” (RC) and “Sheppherd” (PN), and they are designed to reshape the systems on which the business operates, as well as the business processes in which we make decisions. Sustainability is a critical part of this transformation.

In a 'double-hatting' role, this job will lead the integration of sustainability into Petcare Digital Core (both enterprise digital core and relevant segment and division systems) for Mars Petcare as part of the Transformation Initiative, and also lead the relevant work within the Royal Canin division, working in close collaboration with relevant digital transformation colleagues In Pet Nutrition and in the Mars corporate team.

This dedicated resource will steward the complex and multi-faceted process of ensuring that all relevant business processes linked to this Transformation Initiative are either improved upon or newly established through Petcare Digital Core. This work will be done with a focus on efficiency, accuracy and integration into business processes on a transversal basis.

This role requires strategic leadership and sustainability expert insights to enable cross-segment and corporate collaboration that transform processes in a way that optimally enables sustainability performance tracking, performance management, and ultimately underpins target delivery.

The scope of the relevant Petcare Digital Core business processes includes, but is not limited to:

  • Assessment of "as-Is" for the ERP systems and identify improvement opportunities for sustainability integration.
  • Embedding sustainability data processes into R&D, product design, operation planning, customer development and finance
  • Mapping out data and systems to track, integrate, and analyze social and environmental impacts.
  • Creation of data libraries for sustainability KPIs and business processes related to sustainability performance.
  • Action on gaps and opportunities while understanding implications to existing business processes & systems.

To enable successful deployment, capability building of relevant Petcare associates on responsibilities related to sustainability data across a wide range of processes that are part of the Transformation Initiative; Source to Pay, Plan to Fulfil, Lead to Cash, Idea to Market & Finance.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelors' degree minimum
  • Sustainability expertise (3-5 years)
  • Experience/familiarity in Mars Business Systems, transactional master data and spec systems (ERP, SAP, Veritas, etc. ) systems (3- 5 years)
  • Experience in defining and operationalizing future-back vision
  • Expertise in sustainability and integrating sustainability into business processes
  • Experience with SAP modules and proficiency in integrating SAP modules with third party systems and data collection solutions.
  • Adept at understanding and shaping business data and systems, knowledge of real-time data systems (e.g. IoT devices, sensors).
  • Experienced at building networked teams of direct reports, external consultants, and collaborators across a diverse, global enterprise.
  • Experience and comfort working in a matrixed organization, ideally in a large multi-national setting, managing conflicts across diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in establishing and managing data governance frameworks, data quality and controls
  • High familiarity with Mars Petcare’s current high-level business processes or enterprise process awareness from previous experience (R&D, Commercial, Optimization, Sales and Finance).
  • Experience working with and influencing senior leadership with clear and compelling communications that simply summarize complex situations and cut through to root cause problems to propose solutions.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • PARTNERSHIP - Out of the gate, this role will require deep engagement with the Mars Inc Digital Core sustainability team, Petcare Sustainability Data lead and diverse Petcare Sustainability SMEs, as well as Divisional GPOs (RC, PN) for the Petcare transformation programs.

  • VISION CREATION - Design a future-back vision of how to fully integrate sustainability into Petcare Digital Core. This future vision should enable the generation of robust and timely data, analytics, and reporting on sustainability, and enable sound decision-making processes and progression of operational sustainability goals.

  • PLAN CREATION - Build, coordinate and deploy prioritized plan to embed sustainability across all relevant aspects of Petcare Digital Core, influencing and informing adjacent plans and roadmaps to drive alignment, adoption, and engagement.

  • EXPERT PROCESS INPUT - Analyze priority processes to Identify sustainability related elements, Inter-dependencies, pain points, challenges, gaps, and future needs, defining and aligning on improvements with relevant corporate, segment and division teams.

  • CAPABILITY BUILDING - Develop and deliver bespoke training and capability programs to relevant teams regarding sustainability elements of Petcare Digital Core, enabling a step-change in sustainability data expertise within key teams & routines.

  • GOVERNANCE & REPORTING - Provide robust and routine updates to relevant Petcare and other leadership and governance teams to ensure understanding, escalation, resourcing and support to sustainability as a vital component of Petcare Digital Core.

The role also considers the following responsibilities:

  • Process design and documentation
  • Definition of data requirements
  • Collaboration with DT and SI teams to build and embed sustainability capabilities within the Digital Core template
  • Testing and sign-off, contribution to user training, deployment support, and ongoing business process ownership to support live sites and drive continuous improvement.
