Mechanical Shift Engineer (Weekends) - Mars Wrigley

£2,500 welcome bonus

£35,000 - £45,000 (Base salary + Shift Allowances) + Bonus

Rotating shifts 32 OR 40 hours:

Sat/Sun - 6am - 6pm

Sat/Sun - 6pm – 6am

Plus additional hours in the week (Flexible)

The purpose of a Mechanical Engineer is to maintain conditions of operating equipment by repair or replacement of failed components, troubleshooting and repairing routine mechanical problems on assigned equipment, conduct preventative maintenance on various manufacturing and packaging equipment, document WO’s/PM’s using computerised maintenance management system, support Operations in equipment setup and adjustments to centerline operational output of assigned equipment, participate on MSE teams, train operators in AM activities, and conduct Breakdown Analysis


What are we looking for?

  • Proven experience in diagnosing and fixing mechanical issues within an FMCG environment

  • Ability to troubleshoot various competencies: Pneumatic, Basic Hydraulic, Machining and Mechanical Systems on all Process and Packaging Equipment with minimal guidance.

  • You’ll be very hands-on with a self-driven attitude that works well with people and can prioritise workloads with ease.

  • Suitably qualified in a engineering discipline supported by relevant experience.

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Capable of troubleshooting, repairing and overhauling equipment within close tolerances.

  • Perform routine mechanical problem-solving on process & packaging equipment.

  • Perform Preventative Maintenance (PM's) on Process & Packaging Equipment with minimal guidance.

  • Support Operations in equipment setup and training of operators in Autonomous Maintenance (AM) activities.

  • Document Work Orders (WO) using SAP-PPM Plant Maintenance logging and completing maintenance activities on a daily basis.

  • Effectively communicate with Operators, Peers, Supervisors and all levels of management on a daily basis.

  • Demonstrate Engagement in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Theory and Concepts through participation in Pillar Teams, training fellow Technicians/Operators in Autonomous Maintenance (AM) activities to include conducting Breakdown Analysis (BDA’s).

  • Understand and adhere to Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) Procedures, Confined Space Procedures and all other Plant Safety/Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements related to supporting machinery uptime.

  • Complete risk assessment / permit to work and formulate method statements to assist in safe undertaking of any activity.

  • As a Team, properly maintain and ensure efficient and effective repairs of equipment in a fast paced, high production work environment, while prioritizing multiple mechanical/electrical and administrative tasks.

Key Functional Competencies & Technical Skills:

Minimum:

  • Possess a fundamental understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings in order to solve problems in a timely manner.

  • Ability to troubleshoot basic pneumatic and mechanical drive systems at the component level on all assigned equipment, i.e. sorting systems and palletizing robots.

  • Willingness to develop required technical skills in welding, basic machinist and fabrication skill sets.
