Global Renewable Energy Program Manager

Transitioning from fossil to renewable energy is a key strategy to achieve Mars’ Sustainable in a Generation Plan climate commitment of a 50% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 and achievement of Net Zero emissions by 2050. This global role focuses on the development and deployment of Mars Incorporated’s renewable energy program.

This is one of two roles where the job holders.
1. Jointly manage Mars’ global renewable electricity and thermal energy programs.
2. Develop individual projects that both meet site operational requirements and broader supply chain demands to deliver the GHG reductions necessary to deliver Mars GHG targets.
3. Effectively implement renewable projects to deliver the required time, cost, and performance commitments.

What are we looking for?

  • B.S. degree (Masters preferred) in Science, Engineering or Environmental Management

  • >5 years’ experience in a role in an international organisation focused on the development and implementation of renewable energy projects including experience of senior stakeholder management.

  • Familiarity with the design and operation of renewable energy assets and manufacturing facilities and the key organizations, publications & standards in the field

  • Ability to translate science into business relevant polices and positions and communicate those to business teams and to contribute to multi-stakeholder initiatives aimed at refining or applying science. Demonstrated creativity in problem solving and the ability to take an idea through to implementation.

  • Travel will be required including occasional international travel

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Program Management - Ensure a sufficient pipeline of renewable projects to meet business needs.

  • Project Management - Manage stakeholders, project timeline, costs, and functional delivery to deliver required GHG reductions whilst meeting stakeholder expectations. Communicate how projects are tracking to stakeholders flagging risks and shortfalls as needed.

  • Coordination and Liaison with Suppliers, Operating Businesses and Functional Experts - Own the development of the renewable energy project portfolio within their area of responsibility. Connect with Vendors to continuously monitor a fast-changing technology, legislative and vendor landscape. Work with Mars business units at local, regional, and global level to understand requirements and screen potential opportunities. Work with functional experts (engineering, procurement, legal, financial) to assess opportunities and risks and develop project business cases ensuring that internal and external expertise is leveraged and that areas of responsibility are clearly defined.

  • Renewable Energy Subject Matter Expert - Track external regulatory developments (e.g., market liberalization and/or implications of incentive programs like IRA) and NGO standards associated with renewable energy supply and accounting (e.g., RE 100 rules and GHGP scope 2) ensuring Mars stakeholders are kept aware of how these developments create opportunities or risks.

  • Work with site and procurement teams, coaching them in effective management of renewable projects and connecting site teams with experts and previous learnings.

  • Represent Mars in key collaborative projects and initiatives and be able to identify engagement opportunities & approaches to advance our science-based views with collaborative groupings. Bring leading edge thinking & innovations into the business from the outside world.
