Global R&D Communications Senior Manager

Mars Global Pet Nutrition, led by our Purpose, is transforming the future of pet parenting through our nutrition-backed products, innovation and science and technology. The R&D Communications Senior Manager is responsible for developing and executing cutting-edge communications aimed at engaging and inspiring our internal R&D teams and business partners within the organisation. This role is also responsible for helping to build the company’s reputation externally.

The R&D Communications Senior Manager will be part of the R&D leadership team and work closer with the Petcare, Mars Incorporated, and Scientific Communications community. The job holder will be a highly experienced communications professional who has a proven track record of planning and implementing successful campaigns that cut through and generate positive impact.

To fulfill the requirements of this role, the job holder will work closely with cross-functional colleagues and leaders from Pet Nutrition and cross segment R&D, Waltham and corporate affairs. This Associate will be part of a large, diverse group of professionals focused on innovative communications with significant opportunities for career growth.

The job holder will be a member of the Mars Pet Nutrition Global Corporate Affairs team.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Communications, Public Affairs, Journalism or related field strongly preferred). or equivalent.

  • Extensive years’ experience across internal and external communications and science communications roles.

  • Regional or global experience is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to travel
  • Experience in leading science comms is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate scientific concepts into compelling, accessible storytelling.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Creating business-relevant news about Mars Pet Nutrition’s global innovation, science and technology, to enable our internal and external audiences to discover the science behind our products.
  • Identify and prioritize story ideas and create pipeline of global news in line with R&D communication priorities.
  • Support executive visibility for Global R&D VP including speaking opportunities, media and content creation
  • Collaborate with segment and markets Corporate Affairs teams to leverage global expertise and development with local insights and execution.
  • Partner with Internal communications on strategic communications that support the R&D function.
  • Drive external/internal execution of signature R&D programs to extend the science and innovation narrative.
  • Lead and implement content development for R&D Forums including Pet Nutrition R&D Town Halls, Mars Inc, Annual R&D report, R&D awards, Mars Board of Directors meetings and other key internal meetings, working in close partnership with R&D Operations and Science and Technology leaders.
  • Work closely with internal, external and sustainability communications partners to connect reputation-enhancing R&D activities to broaden company narrative; ensure orchestrated communication of key global priorities.
  • Collaborate closely with cross division and cross segment science communications community.
  • Write compelling stories and prepare communication material on science and technology at Mars Pet Nutrition for non-scientific audiences such as consumer, trade, business and stakeholder audiences.
  • Create original content for internal and external digital and social media channels such as LinkedIn.
  • Develop speaking points, slides, Q&As or other communication material for internal or external use
