We’re seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and systems, processing and managing complex metagenomic and biological data that drive groundbreaking scientific research.

What Are We Looking For?

We’re looking for an innovative, skilled data engineer with:

  • Pipeline Expertise: Experience building and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines (e.g., NextFlow).

  • Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge: Proficiency in reliable cloud platforms (preferably Azure), cluster compute, and Spark.

  • Data Management Skills: Strong background in data modelling, storage, databases, and familiarity with networking and security.

  • Technical Communication: Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Omics Data Knowledge: Familiarity with sequencing data, such as metagenomics or 16s sequencing, is highly desirable.

  • Coding & Scripting: Expertise in Python, Shell scripting, and containerisation tools like Docker on Kubernetes.

  • Automation Skills: Experience with CI/CD pipelines (DevOps/GitHub) and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Azure Resource Manager is an asset.

  • Academic Background: A Master’s or PhD in IT, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Creation & Maintenance: Develop and manage scalable, automated workflows for large, complex biological datasets.

  • Innovation: Recommend and implement future capabilities for enhanced data pipeline scalability and efficiency.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with research scientists and data analysts to meet evolving data needs.
