Job Description

About Faculty

Faculty transforms organisational performance through safe, impactful and human-led AI.

We are Europe’s leading applied AI company, and saw its potential a decade ago - long before the current hype cycle.

We were founded in 2014 with our Fellowship programme, training academics to become commercial data scientists.

Today, we provide over 300 global customers with industry-leading software, and bespoke AI consultancy for retail, healthcare, energy, and governmental organisations, as well as our award winning Fellowship.

Our expertise and safety credentials are such that OpenAI asked us to be their first technical partner, helping customers deploy cutting-edge generative AI safely.

Our high-impact work has saved lives through forecasting NHS demand during covid, produced green energy by routing boats towards the wind, slashed marketing spend by predicting customer spending habits, and kept children safe online.

AI is an epoch-defining technology. We want people to join us who can help our customers reap its enormous benefits safely.

About the role

Our Data Engineers are responsible for building and optimising data pipelines, ensuring data accuracy, and implementing scalable architectures. They collaborate with teams to meet data needs, automate workflows, and support analytics using cloud technologies and advanced tools.

As part of the internal data warehouse team you will be building the data infrastructure to help guide Faculty’s decision-making, from day-to-day operational decisions all the way to the strategic directions of the company.

The data warehousing team is responsible for gathering, maintaining, and improving our operational data, which enables us to apply our decision intelligence and AI know-how to our own organisation.

What you'll be doing:

Your role will evolve alongside business needs, but you can expect your key responsibilities to include:

  • Creating, maintaining, and expanding our data ingestion tooling that leverages best practices and build on open source technologies

  • Building and managing data pipelines using Python or dbt to fuel powerful analytics

  • Designing scalable, cloud-based data solutions using cutting-edge technologies like BigQuery or Snowflake.

  • Creating, maintaining, and tuning our data transformations to improve data quality, availability, and clarity for the end users

  • Automating everything! Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployments and testing.

  • Utilising the latest BI tools to develop and maintain data dashboards that help teams make smarter, data-driven decisions.

  • Documenting architectures, processes, and best practices, creating a knowledge-sharing culture across the team.

  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand where they could leverage data, analysis, and automation to do their job more effectively

Who we are looking for:

We're looking for a dynamic individual who can not only develop robust data solutions but also inspire and encourage their adoption throughout the organisation.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need experience or interest in some of the following areas:

  • Data Engineering: writing Python or dbt to build scalable data pipelines

  • Data Warehouses: proven experience with BigQuery, Snowflake or similar

  • Data Visualisation: visual analytics with Tableau, Superset, Power BI or similar

  • Data Tools: exposure to ETL tools (e.g. Airbyte, Fivetran) and workload orchestration tools (e.g. Dagster, Airflow)

  • Cloud: exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP with any understanding Terraform a bonus!

  • Problem Solving: you have a passion for solving interesting challenges utilising the latest techniques and tools in the Data & AI space

  • Autonomy: an ability to work with ambiguous, open-ended questions and take ownership of problems, seeing them through to execution

  • Collaborating: excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential—you thrive on working closely with others to achieve success.

What we can offer you:

The Faculty team is diverse and distinctive, and we all come from different personal, professional and organisational backgrounds. We all have one thing in common: we are driven by a deep intellectual curiosity that powers us forward each day.

Faculty is the professional challenge of a lifetime. You’ll be surrounded by an impressive group of brilliant minds working to achieve our collective goals. Our consultants, product developers, business development specialists, operations professionals and more all bring something unique to Faculty, and you’ll learn something new from everyone you meet. You’ll also have the opportunity to make your mark on a high-growth start-up now poised to expand internationally.
