Job Description

Communications plays a key role supporting our work using the law to protect people and the planet. We use a strategic approach to communications to influence decision-making and drive behaviour change.

Our Berlin office is a vital part of our European operations. Leveraging Germany’s unique position as a leader in the EU and an economic powerhouse, our team in Berlin delivers legal work that creates systemic change in Germany and well beyond its borders.

The Senior Communications Officer will play an essential role in creating that systemic change, working with legal and communications specialists in Berlin and across Europe.

As well as using communications to drive impact for our legal work, this role will help grow ClientEarth Germany’s influence with decision-makers in politics, policy and industry. They will also contribute to the Core team’s mission to constantly improve how we communicate, thinking creatively and using the full suite of communications tools to change behaviour and influence decision-makers.

Main Duties

  • Work with our communications team in Brussels to ensure our strategies are aligned across Europe.
  • Create impactful content that helps to engage and influence key decision-makers.
  • With support from the Communications Lead – Europe, deliver media relations for ClientEarth Germany and in support of agreed priority legal work.
  • Supported by communications colleagues, develop, implement, and measure innovative communications to support the strategic objectives of our legal work in Germany.
  • Develop relationships to match the strategic needs of relevant programme teams, including with journalists, partner organisations and others who can help us deliver our messages.
  • Work with local groups and individuals to build effective joint communications.
  • Ensure that relevant parts of ClientEarth’s media contacts database are kept up to date.
  • Ensure all communications activities are well planned and documented in our global comms planning grid and provide relevant updates to Communications and External Affairs colleagues.

  • Experience of devising and delivering multi-channel communications
  • Experience of responding to competing deadlines and managing multiple tasks and priorities in a busy communications environment
  • Knowledge of German/international media
