Job Description

After four and a half years, Maria-Krystyna Duval, our Chief Programmes and Impact Officer, is leaving ClientEarth to pursue new avenues. We are now looking for an excellent leader to inspire happy, effective, and high performing teams; champion our work externally and to drive the next phase of our mission to protect people and planet.

This is job is mission-critical for ClientEarth. The Chief Programmes and Impact Officer (CPIO) is accountable for ClientEarth’s global impact strategy and ensuring our regional programme legal teams deliver our intended impact. As a member of ClientEarth’s Executive Team, you will have a significant role to play in global strategic oversight and decision-making, and on our mission, strategy, culture, equity, diversity and inclusion and values.

We are looking for an inspiring leader with excellent judgement and a positive mindset. You will help us lead our talented and dedicated colleagues into our next phase of our work, building on our successes tackling pressing environmental challenges and using the law to create systemic change.

Person specification

The following offers an aspirational view of our ideal candidate profile; however, we encourage applications from candidates with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented groups.

  • Law degree
  • Substantial experience as a practising lawyer and/or legal academic
  • Experience of litigation and / or legal advocacy
  • Substantial strategic leadership and senior management experience
  • Experience of working in the not-for-profit sector including working on programme strategy and impact measurement
  • Strong understanding of environmental issues
