The Technical Assurance Lead plays a critical role in verifying and developing the competence of the field workforce enabling the highest standards of safety and client / customer satisfaction, ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory legislation and codes of practice.

The job holder will work with complex and large installations including construction sites and will be proficient in several disciplines to ensure technical safety and compliance across the Centrica Business Solutions, Business Energy Metering and Net Zero business landscapes.

The job holder will work with business leads when visiting them to undertake critical safety assessments. They will act as a key stakeholder in ensuring that the safety assurance process is embedded throughout all business areas (Centrica Business Solutions, Business Energy Metering and Net Zero) operations.

The Technical Assurance Lead will report to the Health & Safety Manager, this is a field based role which will require regular travel to sites and offices across the UK – requiring occasional overnight accommodation. As such the individual is required to often work with minimum supervision.

Role accountabilities:

  • Plan, organise and carry out a targeted number of safety assurance assessments on field-based employees and trainees employed or contracted by each business area

  • Undertake assessments consistently and in accordance with Technical Procedures in order to assess and enhance the development of safe working and technical competence

  • Provides feedback and coaching to individuals and teams as well as provide Corrective Action training

  • Participate in regular safety reviews identifying trends and influencing front line and management

  • Work to embed the safety assurance process within each relevant business area

  • Create and update the guidance notes for the safety assurance process to align with each relevant business area

  • Embed local governance with the relevant operational teams

  • Act as the point of contact for technical compliance within each operation

  • Lead the development of technical compliance reports to give each business areas further clarity of their safety performance

  • Develop electrical technical standards, working closely with the technical leads within the electrical operations and relevant standards team

  • Support the Health & Safety Manager in the investigation of incidents as required, including electrical incident investigations. Assimilate evidence and deal effectively with external stakeholders including all emergency services. Providing reports of the highest standard and within agreed timescale for submission in Coroners and Law Courts

  • Positively promote each business area and its products to increase client / customer awareness and contribute to the profitability of the business

  • Deliver safety, technical and operational procedure briefings and any training/briefing packages as required to all Direct and Contract labor field-based employees

  • Responsible for the day-to-day safety, quality and technical standards of the work verification of all installation certificates prior to issuing to client / customers.

The Person:

  • Be qualified to City & Guilds level 3 in Electrical Installation and be up to date with the 18th edition Wiring Regulations

  • Hold the 2394 Initial and Fundamental Inspection and Testing and 2395 Periodic Inspection & Testing Qualification (or 2391 Testing and Inspection of Electrical Installations) or equivalent

  • Electrical metering experience

  • Experience of coaching/training/mentoring

  • Ideally hold a TAQA assessing qualification, but not essential as training will be available

  • Passionate about Health and Safety putting safety first

  • Excellent communication skills and able to build strong rapport with colleagues and customers

  • Hold a full UK driving license and be willing to travel across the United Kingdom, and occasional travel across our European businesses as appropriate.
