Job Description

We are Centrica! We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising a cleaner, greener future. Working here is #MoreThanACareer - we’re powered by purpose. Together we can make an impact that will truly change tomorrow. Whether you’re developing cutting-edge green tech, helping customers on the front line or simplifying operations behind the scenes.

Your work here isn’t just a job – it’s a mission. We all play a vital role in energising a greener, fairer future.

Settlement Expert

We’re looking for a brilliant Settlement Expert to join our team of colleagues in British Gas Energy, that together are setting the standard in energy supply.

In the complicated world of energy, we strive to make energy simple, creating a straightforward and hassle-free experience for our customers.

Our philosophy is success comes when we’re in it together, trusting each other and having fun along the way. And because we’ve got big plans to help our homes and businesses get closer to net zero, we can’t stand still. We need to be always learning, ready to grow and move forward.

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our British Gas Settlements operational team, where you will be instrumental in ensuring our settlement obligations within the domestic electricity market are consistently met.

In this role, you will lead the transition to Market-wide Half Hourly Settlements (MHHS) as our subject matter expert. You will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of MHHS, ensuring that its impacts are comprehensively understood and effectively managed within the Settlements function and across all related operational teams. Your leadership will be key to navigating this critical change.

Accountabilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert for Market-wide Half Hourly Settlements (MHHS), driving improvements and implementing best practices across the business.
  • Proactively monitor industry developments and implement necessary adjustments to internal processes.
  • Support the business in developing and implementing the industry led MHHS solution.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Ensure the business consistently meets its settlement obligations in the domestic Electricity markets.
  • Help manage our Settlement performance and reduce our Imbalance exposure.
  • Effectively manage our 3rd party DC/DA strategic partners to drive Settlement and Imbalance benefit.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of UK energy market, specifically the Balancing & Settlement Code.
  • Robust understanding of regulatory landscape for Energy Suppliers.

Competencies

  • Proven expertise in Market-wide Half Hourly Settlements (MHHS): Demonstrated experience and in-depth knowledge of the MHHS framework and its operational implications.
  • Robust understanding of Electricity Settlement processes: A thorough grasp of how settlements work within the energy market, including both half-hourly and non-half-hourly sites.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to manipulate, analyse, and interpret complex datasets using a range of analytical techniques to address challenges logically and effectively.
  • Detailed understanding of the regulatory landscape: Solid comprehension of the energy market’s governance framework, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and Elexon Settlement mandates.
  • Leadership and team management experience: Proven ability to lead teams, particularly Data Analysts, while managing outsourced partners to drive operational efficiency.
  • Stakeholder management and collaboration: Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to manage and engage multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally, across various business functions.
  • Effective communication and influencing skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including the skill to present complex information in a clear and adaptable manner to different audiences.
  • Time management and multitasking: Exceptional time management skills, with the capacity to prioritise multiple deliverables and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Project management and solution delivery: Ability to plan, manage, and deliver timely and effective analysis, reporting, and process improvements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel: Excellent skills in working with Microsoft Excel, including advanced data manipulation, as well as strong proficiency across other Office applications.
  • Ability to work autonomously and remotely: Demonstrates the ability to manage tasks independently while maintaining strong collaboration with teams in different locations.
  • Innovative thinking and adaptability: Demonstrated capability to drive improvements and adapt to changing industry developments.

At Centrica we embrace diversity and actively seek to attract individuals with unique backgrounds and perspectives. To build a more sustainable future, we need the best team – a team with a diverse mix of people and skills, where everyone feels welcome and able to succeed. We are dedicated in helping to close the diversity gap and would love to see more females, people of colour and LGBTQ+ employees, as well as those from a variety of cultures and ethnicity to veterans and the differently abled. Supporting diversity and inclusion is a big part of who we are, we are not looking for people to fit into our culture but to add to it!
