Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. From Finance and Data Science, to our Wellbeing and People teams - this is the engine of our energy system, where our various Centres of Excellence power up each of our brilliant businesses, ensuring they have all the support, technologies, and capabilities they need to get our customers to Net Zero by 2050.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Public Affairs Team as a Public Affairs Manager! As a Public Affairs Manager, you will help support the public affairs team to cement Centrica’s reputation as the Responsible Energy supplier and trusted market leader. You will also devise and deliver engagement campaigns which demonstrate Centrica’s investment for long-term energy security and resilience and retain focus on sustainability goals. Very occasional travel to Windsor or London.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor political events and parliamentary business and update colleagues on relevant events.

  • Building and maintaining British Gas’ relationships with MPs, advisors and other political stakeholders, including mayoralty and local authority stakeholders, through regular face-to-face engagement, as well as email and phone communications.

  • Review casework correspondence from MPs and their teams and analyse casework trends.

  • Support on local engagement programmes, including VIP visits to our sites and assets. This may include regular travel to locations which host Centrica operational assets.

  • Collaborating with corporate affairs colleagues to create compelling campaigns, content and messaging to highlight Centrica’s contribution to the green transition and its societal and community impact.

  • Assist with strategic briefings and intelligence for senior level colleagues on Government policy.

  • Represent the business, attend meetings on behalf of the public affairs team, including external visits to Parliament and to MP energy advice events (note this may involve some travel)

  • Provide support to colleagues across Corporate Affairs where needed.

Here's what we’re looking for:

  • Experience within a political environment, either civil service, Parliament or an agency.

  • Demonstrable understanding of UK politics and parliament.

  • Drive and self-starter with growth mindset.

  • Demonstrates the required gravitas and influencing skills to support senior stakeholders.

  • Ability to pick up a brief (or multi briefs) quickly and move them forward.

Why should you apply?

We’re not a perfect place – but we’re a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That’s why we’ve designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too.
