An opportunity to play your part – In the role of Procurement Category Manager within Centrica’s Net Zero team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing category strategies for Air Source Heat Pumps, EV Charging, Hive Smart Home, Domestic Solar, and Battery. Managing approximately £60 million in spend, this position is both highly strategic and critical for Centrica. It demands close collaboration and alignment with senior internal commercial and operational stakeholders, as well as large strategic external suppliers, to successfully execute procurement projects and secure the best comer cial outcomes for Centrica. Additionally, you will maintain a prominent external profile within the UK decarbonisation industry, engaging with OEMs, government bodies, industry boards, and other key stakeholders.

The day to day –

  • Collaborate enthusiastically with business stakeholders to establish a wave plan of procurement activity, considering new business requirements, business strategy, emerging risks, and expiring contracts with suppliers.
  • Apply a strong understanding of market dynamics (using tools such as Porter’s Five Forces and Kraljic) and cost drivers specific to Net Zero to develop an impactful Category Strategy.
  • Create dynamic go-to-market strategies in collaboration with business stakeholders.
  • Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels to maximize the impact of the Category Strategy.
  • Lead and execute complex, high-value tenders in line with the Category Strategy.
  • Lead commercial negotiations for complex deals, managing the varying demands of multiple stakeholders.
  • Lead contract drafting and negotiation in collaboration with appropriate Legal teams.
  • Develop Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) activities in line with the Centrica SRM framework for the HR & L&D Category.
  • Project manage procurement projects, including all aspects of risk management and contract governance processes, in collaboration with business stakeholders (Group Contracts Committee and Centrica Investment Committee).
  • Manage, lead, and coach category specialists supporting Net Zero and wider group categories.
  • Manage and optimize the supplier base within the category, including buying channels and category playbooks, to enable ease of stakeholder buying.

  • Think strategically and articulate how the category strategy will meet business needs with clarity and precision.
  • Navigate market dynamics with strong knowledge and expertise.
  • Excel in commercial negotiations to secure the best deals.
  • Manage key suppliers effectively to maintain value through negotiation and sourcing.
  • Engage with executive committee and leadership teams, using active listening and influencing skills to challenge the status quo.
  • Create true win/win initiatives for both parties when managing strategic suppliers.
  • Lead projects to success with excellent project management skills.
  • Influence without authority and make an impact even without direct control.
  • Communicate and influence senior stakeholders effectively by managing upwards.
  • Inspire and guide your team to achieve great results with strong team leadership and management skills.
