We are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to drive annual revenues of £8m-£13m, while building an unweighted pipeline of approximately £50m for the next calendar year within the UKI Industrial and Commercial sector for Centrica Business Solutions. This role is predominantly field-based, with the expectation to work one day per week from either our Salford, Lancs or Windsor, Berks office. At Centrica Business Solutions, we lead the way in building, funding, operating, and maintaining energy solutions, helping businesses achieve their net zero goals by balancing sustainability with profitability. Our ideal candidate will possess a strong sales mentality with a proven track record in new business development and sales management within the UKI Industrial and Commercial sector. Experience in selling energy products and solutions such as CHP, solar, and heat pumps is essential, along with a passion for identifying and closing new opportunities. Key accountabilities

  • Implement sales strategies for high-value Industrial and Commercial (I&C) customer base underpinned by the Miller Heiman (or similar) strategic selling approach and methodology

  • Secure annual revenues of circa £8m-£13m while generating an unweighted pipeline of opportunities for the next calendar year of circa £50m within the Industrial and Commercial UKI sector

  • Represent the business at events such as trade shows, exhibitions, networking events and lead the delivery of client facing marketing activities of the organisation (e.g. webinars)

  • Maintain continuously and consistently a Salesforce database of pipeline opportunities and contract wins, providing regular KPI reports and sales forecasts to the Senior Management Team

  • Work closely and collaboratively with other functions/Teams of the organization including Marketing, Technical Sales Support and Proposal Management, Commercial, Engineering and Operations teams

  • Lead and manage the bid and sales process in alignment with CBS project governance process

  • This includes Sales leadership, systems development, integration and ownership, control and process development, strategic customer management and forecasting (including sector targeting), reporting and performance management

  • Contribute to competitor and market intelligence/insights to influence the strategy and tactical positioning of CBS UKI services and products

Key requirements

  • Proven experience and track record of selling Decarbonisation/Net Zero solutions, including solar, CHP and Heat Pump, to I&C organisations

  • Experience in leading and driving sales processes to a desired outcome while leading internal support teams, managing and communicating risks at every stage of the process

  • Ttrack record of developing a pipeline of sales opportunities through own network mining and/or marketing activities, government policies/regulations

  • Good understanding of projects and solutions financial credentials and parameters (e.g. sales Gross/Net Margins, Internal rate of returns, NPV…etc)

  • Good knowledge of project financing offerings and commercial vehicles (e.g. PPA, EaaS…etc) and the parameters determining their applicability and suitability

  • Understanding and examples of implementation of the Miller Heiman strategic selling methodology and approach including consultative selling techniques to listen and respond to customer needs

  • Ability to think strategically; identifying potential risks and opportunities for both the client and the business
