Connected Places Catapult is the UK’s innovation accelerator for cities, transport, and places, removing the barriers to new technology and helping to connect people and places. Purpose of the role

You will be part of the New Mobility Technologies directorate enabling a greener, more sustainable, more resilient, and effective transport system fit for the future movement of goods and people. Our aims are to:

  • Stimulate innovation in the transport sector
  • Develop new transport markets
  • Support the transition to new transport systems
  • Maintain the UK’s position as world leading innovator, decarbonizing transport for the benefit of the society

To achieve these aims, we apply a holistic systems approach to innovation, bringing together inter-related components of a successful innovation Programme to maximize impact and leverage initiatives:

  • Enabling deployment of Automated Systems within transport, through removal of barriers and transfer of knowledge to industry through collaboration and trial design.
  • Decarbonisation of transport across modes in energy evaluation/selection and through large scale implementation and deployment planning working with Government and industry sector in Road, Maritime, and Rail infrastructure.
  • Design and develop future traffic management and integration guidance through working with Government, local authority, and technology companies. Enabling open market, transforming future intelligence transport.
  • Applying innovation to support logistics across the supply chain, supporting delivery of the end-to-end logistic roadmap, understanding the value of freight, and unlocking investment to support the UK economy.

Key Responsibilities

Working collaboratively across CPC and with industry to shape and deliver collaborative projects enabling development of future transport that will lead to national and regional economic growth.

This means you will play a key role in delivering work packages or entire smaller projects, working with colleagues and stakeholders. Project demands will vary, and we want you to utilise your strengths to maximise your impact.

As a Systems Engineer in the New Mobility Technologies directorate, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical contributions into projects and Work Packages relating primarily to new technologies in mobility
  • Supporting industry to build the required capabilities for growth and innovation in order to remove market barriers and create opportunity.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Technical Leads, other systems engineers, Technical Leads, customers, project partners and other industry/government/academic stakeholders to deliver project outputs.
  • Contribute to authoring of impactful analysis and reports for dissemination in a range of new mobility areas..
  • Helping to enable industry to build required capabilities for growth and innovation to address market barriers and create opportunities.
  • You may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic outcomes and ensure effective business operations including providing cover for members of the team as required.

Requirements

Required skills and experience

We are searching for, Systems-thinkers, Engineers, Strategists and Consultants

You will describe your communication style/skills with at least 2 from the following:

  • Storyteller (able to grab the attention of the audience)
  • Influencer
  • Presenter
  • Facilitator

To be successful in this role you should ideally have career experience in one, or experience across some of the following transport domains:

  • Air Mobility
  • Maritime
  • Logistics
  • Rail
  • Integrated Infrastructure
  • Places (integration of mobility; e.g., airports, ports, train stations)
  • Roads

You may also have experience in one or more of these areas:

  • Connected Intelligence (including automation)
  • Convening and Designing
  • Testing and Demonstrating
  • Scaling and Impact
  • Regulation, Standards and Policy
