ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a dynamic Sales Director to spearhead the expansion of Carwow's Sell My Car Service. At just three years old, this part of Carwow’s business is our fastest growing with more and more sellers choosing Carwow to help them get a great price for their vehicle.
This role reporting directly into the Chief Commercial Officer for Sell My Car is pivotal to delivering on that customer experience. By leading and evolving the Carwow sales teams and sales capabilities which help broker deals between sellers and buyers on our site, you’ll ensure that every car finds a buyer across our wide network of dealer partners.
While the majority of cars ‘sell themselves’ through our automated processes, a significant number need a more tailored approach: which we call ‘Second Chance’ where sales experts reach out to sellers and buyers to broker the sale.
You’ll be leading this experienced and highly qualified team of 20+ split between our London and Bournemouth offices, who handle thousands of contacts per day across key areas in our sales lifecycle, with sellers and buyers across five channels (inbound & outbound calls, email, messaging, Whatsapp) and you will be building out new teams to support our expansions in Europe (Germany and Spain).
It’s a fast paced, high performance environment that is constantly changing and where volumes and revenues are growing weekly. These teams are regularly called out by both sellers and dealers as a differentiator in the Carwow experience vs our competitors.
You will drive and lead every aspect of how this team operates and scales over time, delivering on revenue and conversion targets through constant operational improvements and innovations. A key part of your role will be working with the wider commercial and product organisation to identify other areas where your team is able to bring value, and to work with your Head of Sales Innovation to bring new initiatives to marketing, constantly innovating our offer for sellers and dealers.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will lead, mentor, and inspire our high-performing multi-location sales team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment:
- Actively participate in the annual and quarterly financial planning process setting your and your teams growth goals. Develop a strong understanding of market dynamics and trends to enable you to do this accurately.
- Define and execute the strategy required to hit those sales and conversion targets within your team
- Foster a high-performance culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the sales department.
- Create high adaptability within the team to respond to business changes and needs
- Develop core sales capabilities within the organisation by implementing assessment methods, teaching best-practice sales approaches, coaching, and mentoring the team directly and indirectly through direct reports
- Build out new teams in Germany and Spain to support the rollout of SMC into Europe
- Expand our existing trainee / academy programme to become an always on source of sales talent into Carwow
- Advocate the voice of customers and partners and work closely with the Carwow product and operational teams to improve the buying and selling experience, features & functionality and work with numerous teams across the business to drive and support the rollout of new initiatives, product and services through the sales team
- Establish a clear set of KPIs and related reporting that enables you to understand real time team performance and respond accordingly
- Foster innovation in Sales and customer contact, identifying opportunities for new processes, technology and AI to increase efficiency and effectiveness of contact points and work with the wider business to implement these.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with key buying groups to understand their needs - building confident market knowledge that allows you support day to day trading
- Identify new opportunities across other areas of team sales funnel to use your team and their skills to improve outcomes for sellers and buyer
- Lead the team in developing and implementing a data-driven performance management system that drives revenue growth and profitability
- Identifying new bulk buying partners (such as car buying groups), lead commercial negotiations and ongoing relationship management.
- As part of the Sell My Car senior team you will be input on and support the rollout of our proposition to other markets sharing best practice and aligning on tools and technologies.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- You’re a high energy, self-motivated, driven individual who over indexes on sales outcomes and fosters exceptional working relationships to achieve this.
- A track record of leading a large telesales sales team (15+) ideally B2C to exceed their goals over multiple years and/or across multiple companies
- Provide examples of successful revenue generation, market expansion, and team performance improvement
- Ability to manage, motivate and develop a large sales team with a range of levels of experience
- Demonstrable experience of building out sales capability and driving sales best practice to deliver on business growth goals
- A keen interest and track record of delivering continuous optimisation of team performance and headcount ROI
- An eye for detail and a creative approach to solving challenges faced by large and small car dealers
- Translating financial goals into sales team objectives, setting targets that drive performance and continually evolving these
- Strong data skills with the ability to build a cohesive story
- Automotive industry experience is helpful but not essential
