Identity is Camunda 8’s solution for managing users, groups, roles, tenants, and their permissions to access the system. It is a fundamental component of our system that enables our users to run core business processes at scale. Identity provides a rich feature set around single-sign-on and authorization that large enterprises-grade setups require, while it doesn’t get into the way of developers who want to start quickly. Identity is part of both Camunda’s offerings, Software as a Service (SaaS) and Self-Managed. For SaaS, it provides a best of breed solution and for Self-Managed it supports a wide range of third-party identity providers via the OIDC protocol.
As the Identity team’s Tech Lead, you will collaborate with three engineers to find and implement technical solutions that satisfy and balance the requirements of Identity’s different use cases. You and the team will create technical solutions for a fundamental component of Camunda 8. Your work has a direct impact on every Camunda user, be it a large enterprise setting up a production system or a community user just starting out.

What You’ll Be Doing:
- You will oversee and guide the team’s excellence of its technical solutions and design decisions, fitting the overarching Camunda 8 architecture. By collaborating with stakeholders (product manager, architect, management) you will ensure consensus where it really matters.
- You will coach fellow engineers to autonomously deliver results towards the project’s goals. Where needed, you are a reliable partner and can make technical decisions under uncertainty. You inspire team members by demonstrating your own best practices in the daily doing.
- You will create and improve technical structures in the project to deliver high-quality software. You are able to spot potentials in the development process and can suggest and implement improvements together with your manager.
- In collaboration with your manager, you will lead larger implementation projects by developing solution architectures, making time plans, and communicating progress and results with all involved stakeholders.
- In balance with your leadership tasks, you will write code to do what is necessary to move the project forward. This can range from establishing an architectural concept that others will build on to repairing the broken CI build that others lack the time to focus on.
What You Bring:
- 5+ years of experience as a Java Backend Engineer.
- Excellent knowledge and experience using Java
- Excellent project management skills
- Clear and empathic communication in both written and verbal form
- Ability to quickly pick up on technical concepts and guide engineers
- Ability and/or willingness to use our product
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with Identity technologies such as OIDC, Keycloak, Auth0, MS Entra
- Experience with Javascript and React

What We Have to Offer:
Compensation
For external hires, we consider the skills and experience of the incoming candidate, but typically place candidates in the first half of the range to ensure ample room for growth over the entire lifecycle of the role.
Below is the annual Total Target Cash Compensation (Total Cash) range for Camundi located in one of our entities. Total Cash refers to base salary and 100% attainment of variable target, where applicable. Actual Total Cash offered will depend on factors such as skills and qualifications related to the role. To comprise the Total Rewards package, Camunda also offers equity (where applicable) in the form of a Virtual Employee Stock Option Plan and benefits based on the country of residence.
The annual Total Cash range for this position for Camundi in our entities is as follows:
- United States: $131,200.00 to $196,800.00
- Germany: €87,300.00 to €130,900.00
- United Kingdom: £85,000.00 to £127,500.00
- Singapore: S$162,900.00 to S$244,400.00
