Job Title: DevOps Platform Engineer

Locations: London or Ipswich

Due to the sensitive nature of this role you will be required to have DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum will be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

Why this job matters:

A DevOps Platform Engineer ensures good practice platform engineering activities take place, system availability is maintained and responds quickly and effectively to faults as they occur. This helps our users be productive, downtime is not an option.

What you’ll do:

  • Responding to issues that are raised either by automated dashboards, by our users, or through proactive monitoring routines that you will develop.
  • Looking at existing dashboards and creating new ones to monitor systems.
  • Collating issues and writing reports based on these for wider audiences.
  • Updating support documentation and providing training to our 1st line teams.
  • Owning hardware installation at our various data centres.
  • Performing regular operating system and application patching.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience in software and systems delivery methodologies, processes, and tools.
  • Knowledge of Linux based operating systems.
  • Practical experience of diagnosing and fixing issues in a production system (both hardware and software).
  • Knowledge of cisco networking (mostly ASA firewalls), and/or skills in network issue debugging.
  • Testing of custom software deliveries, ensuring they’ll integrate and perform in production as expected.
  • Deployment and configuration using automation tools such as kickstart, ansible & puppet.

You may also have:

  • Skills in a programming language (python) and/or scripting language (bash).
