Job Title: Application Support Professional

Location: Ipswich/London/Manchester

Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you may be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

What you’ll do:

GSS Technical Services exemplifies technical excellence in delivery and support. As a Service Delivery Professional you will be part of the Technical Service Operations and delivery team, personally contributing to software deliveries, quality and process improvements. You will be responsible for delivering and deploying new quality assured bespoke builds in an automated way, as well as performing 2nd Line support and maintenance activities on existing ones.

You will regularly work closely with customers, sometimes from customer premises to diagnose / resolve issues and where appropriate work with 3rd party suppliers to deliver fixes and be part of a 24/7 on call Rota. You will share progress via service management reporting and regular checkpoint meetings with customers. This role will require working as part of a team, supporting colleagues and collaboration with customers.

  • Works under general direction within a clear framework of accountability - has responsibility for delivering and implementing aspects of security solutions for GSS customers.
  • Plans own work in line with general direction to meet given objectives and processes.
  • Responsible for resolving incidents and service requests in line with SLAs to enable continued system operation.
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities that assist with setting technical direction, with respect to best practice for domains of operation.

What you'll bring:

  • Service management experience within the IT industry
  • Ability to take responsibility, ownership and autonomy of delegated platform operations and deliverables
  • Strong technical background, against the below skill set
  • Understanding of DevOps and agile team methodologies
  • Experience delivering small to medium technical deliveries
  • Degree Educated or equivalent Industry experience

Desired Experience:

  • Unix / Linux (RedHat7) sysadmin management
  • Ansible automated deployment methods
  • SQL / Elasticsearch Database management
  • Windows Domain management- (i.e. AD, Group Policy)
  • VMware / vCentre management- virtualised server deployments
  • Basic networking management (Layer 2/3)
  • NAS (Netapp) storage / replication management
  • Micro-services / containerised deployment (Docker, K8s)
  • Working with big data platforms

Due to the sensitive nature of this role you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance ( https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). The role is subject to you gaining and keeping the necessary level of security clearance needed to undertake your work. The result of the security clearance vetting is not subject to appeal. Failure to successfully achieve and maintain the necessary level of security clearance may see any offer of employment with BT cease or withdrawn or may cause a role change or possibly lead to termination of employment.
