The Senior Environmental Consultant in Queensland will provide expertise, ingenuity and judgement in the water and environment field. The Senior Environmental Consultant will have a strong focus on environmental assessment and environmental approvals. They will act as Project Manager and/or technical expert and work with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality environmental and approval services for BMT’s customers. This will include liaison with State and Commonwealth agencies.

The Senior Environmental Consultant will:

• Have expertise in their field with strong technical capability in environmental investigations, assessment, environmental planning, and approvals.
• Provide strategic and statutory environmental advice to clients in a variety of sectors, with a focus on coastal and maritime infrastructure works.
• Build upon existing and develop new client relationships to further the APAC environment business.
• Provide technical advice and guidance within the national BMT environment team.

In this role you will be able to:

• Liaise with potential and current clients for the purposes of service delivery and business development.
• Perform high quality and professional technical work requiring a high degree of independence and judgement.
• Serve as a technical specialist in the areas of environmental approvals, environmental assessment, and project management.
• Supervise and review the work of team members and external consultants.
• Share knowledge and act as mentor within the area of expertise.
• Prepare, review, and submit proposals / tenders.
• Project manage across a range of projects to scope and within time, cost and quality requirements.
• Undertake specific technical tasks including but not limited to:
• Environmental and planning approvals, policies and strategic advice
• Environmental impact assessments, management plans and risk assessments, e.g. using ISO 31000
• Environmental auditing and/or contractor management

Relevant Education, Experience, and Skills:

Essential:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Planning, Engineering, or other relevant area of study.
• More than 5 years’ experience post-graduation.
• Demonstrated experience in Queensland environmental approvals regime and/or Commonwealth environmental approvals regime.
• Willingness to learn new environmental approvals regimes.
• Demonstrated experience in undertaking environmental assessments.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong technical background in environmental consulting

Desirable:

• Experience working within a multi-site organisation.
• Experience working with the engineering, coastal, maritime or resources sectors.
• Post-graduate qualifications in environmental management or other relevant area of study
