We are currently seeking a HSEQ Coordinator to join the team in our Brisbane office. The successful candidate will be an experienced, ambitious, and technically proficient individual with a passion for health, safety and quality. You will be responsible for professionally and efficiently delivering against BMT’s Global HSEQ strategy and local key HSEQ priorities.
This role will support the APAC functional leads to develop and implement HSEQ policies, procedures and systems and will ensure Global BMT HSEQ initiatives are implemented across the region.
In this role you will:
- Provide proactive advice on HSEQ matters that enable the business to achieve its objectives.
- Participate and contribute to the Global HSEQ strategy and agenda.
- Conduct internal and external audit programmes to ensure ISO accreditation is maintained.
- Develop, implement, communicate and review HSEQ programs, policies, procedures, documentation and systems in accordance with current and relevant industry standards and legislation.
- Conduct workshop, office, site and field inspections, emergency response drills and audits.
- Assist with the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Information Management System ensuring it remains aligned with Global and third-party accreditations/certification requirements.
- Manage incident investigations, injury management, workers compensation claims and return to work programs in consultation with the People Team.
- Review, provide guidance and approve JHA field/site and project plans.
- Support, advise and mentor line managers in the handling of HSEQ matters in accordance with HSEQ legalisation plans, objectives and targets.
- Oversee the development and implementation of HSE training and induction programs, including BMT's in-house HSE training courses, online inductions and BMT courses.
- Develop and review project health, safety and environmental plans in consultation with project personnel to mitigate risks associated with international project work such as Papua New Guinea.
- Assist in diving, drone and vessel operation auditing.
- Travel into the field and to other APAC offices to support field work and HSEQ colleagues.
Relevant Education, Experience, and Skills:
Essential Skills:
- Min of 5 years’ experience in Health, Safety and Environment role.
- Diploma or higher tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety and/or Environmental Science.
- Excellent communication and behavioural skills.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of management systems conforming to ISO 9001, 14001, ISO 45001 standards.
- A strong understanding and working knowledge of HSEQ local and international management principles, standards and legislations.
- Desire to drive HSEQ initiatives and keep up to date with contemporary practices.
- Proficient in MS Office suite of applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Nice to have:
- Qualified internal or lead auditor (OHS, Environment and/or Quality).
- Senior First Aid and/or Fire Warden Certificate.
- HSEQ experience in an engineering, mining, maritime or consultancy environment.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint.
- Formal Incident Investigation Qualification (TapRoot, ICAM or Why Tree).
- At-sea commercial experience to understand the challenging environment we operate in.
- Implementation of Marine Safety Management Systems.
- Proven experience preferable within the Maritime industry.
- Relevant recreational or commercial experience such as: Recreational Boat License / Coxswain 2/3 / Elements of Shipboard Safety / Recreational or commercial diving experience.
