Job Description

Design and Engineering Apprentice - Bath (Level 3)

Who are we?

BMT is a world leading engineering and consultancy whose Bath offices specialise in the design and support of ships and submarines for the world’s navies. Our team thrives on tackling the most complex engineering and programme challenges to develop design solutions and provide technology services to our customers in the maritime defence markets. As an Employee Benefit Trust, we are genuinely independent and put our people first investing in their training and participating in our extensive Research and Development programme.

What is the role?

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants for the following roles:

· 2 x Design and Engineering Apprentices (Naval Architecture);

· 2 x Design and Engineering Apprentices (Marine Engineering).

We are looking for pro-active, keen and committed apprentice engineers to join our talented and dynamic teams of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers to work on our projects helping solve our customers’ problems and delivering them innovative, bespoke solutions. Working alongside our clients, we often start with a blank sheet of paper and sketch their ideas and concepts to map the path to delivering the solution. Our Systems Engineers help our customers understand and simplify their complex needs. Our Naval Architects and Engineers take such requirements and develop designs to meet them for both new build ships and submarine and existing vessels.

This is a great opportunity for enthusiastic individuals with a passion to learn and develop their engineering skills. Attendance on a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship programme through a local college will be supported by on-the-job training and a dedicated mentor.

The main responsibilities will be to:

· Develop and apply a breadth of engineering skills;

· Use software and technologies to help solve complex engineering problems;

· Contribute to developing designs for the next generation of vessels and platforms, and to maintaining and improving the design of existing ships and submarines ;

· Keep up-to-date with future technologies and how they could be incorporated into our designs;

· Be part of a team interacting directly with our customers at meetings and during surveys of ships and submarines;

· Help develop in-service modifications for in-service naval and commercial marine vessels.

To be considered for these positions you’ll need a minimum GCSE grade 4 (C) and above in Maths, English and Science-based subjects. You will be able to work under your own initiative but also as part of a team. You will have an organised approach to your work and will be able to communicate effectively.
