We are the people who give possibilities purpose

BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it’s no small feat. It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

Job Description

As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for the design, architecture, and integration of advanced electrical systems across existing and new automation platforms. You will guide complex engineering decisions for machine and plant systems, ensure robust system performance, support market availability for legacy products, and maintain compliance with applicable safety, EMC, and regulatory requirements.

You’ll act as a key technical authority for electrical engineering, partnering with interdisciplinary teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to solve complex system-level challenges. In this role, you will shape engineering standards, mentor other engineers, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to the development of next-generation industrial automation solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, redesign and development of complex legacy electro-mechanical systems, components, and assemblies for commissioning and automation systems

  • Support sustaining engineering activities for existing products, including issue resolution, lifecycle management, design changes, and continuous product improvements to maintain quality, compliance, and market availability

  • Analyze and evolve electrical system architectures in alignment with product, platform, and regulatory requirements

  • Provide technical planning input, identify engineering risks, and support project execution across multiple development activities

  • Drive clarification, definition, and implementation of electrical and system-level requirements

  • Create, change, review, and approve electrical schematics, bills of materials, cabinet designs, wiring harness designs, and related engineering drawings

  • Select, specify, and technically justify electrical components, considering performance, reliability, manufacturability, compliance, and lifecycle needs

  • Lead and review electro-mechanical calculations, simulations, design analyses, and verification activities

  • Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on technical concepts, design reviews, issue resolution, and implementation quality

  • Establish, review, and maintain high-quality technical documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practice (GDP) and applicable engineering processes

  • Define and support verification activities, including initial sample inspections, test planning, test execution, and evaluation of results

Qualifications:

  • Outstanding technical capabilities with proven ability to provide technical leadership, guide complex decisions, and influence cross-functional engineering outcomes

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with extensive experience in product development, electrical system design, and system integration; experience in robotics, mechatronics, or industrial automation is desirable

  • T-shaped skill profile: deep expertise in electrical hardware and system architecture combined with broad understanding of engineering, procurement, quality, manufacturing, and lifecycle considerations

  • Analytical and structured working methodology; self-motivated, organized, with a fact-based and “go-and-see” mentality and a strong drive to understand

  • Strong experience in system engineering, reliability engineering, design verification, and risk-based engineering methods

  • Strong documentation skills (GDP) and practical experience in developing models and graphical representations/abstractions of systems and processes

  • Strong stakeholder management, networking, mentoring, and technical communication skills

  • Experience in common Quality methods (Design Review, DFMEA, Design for Six Sigma, etc.)

  • Regulatory knowledge of the Machinery Regulation

  • Knowledge of measurement technology and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

  • Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills and the ability to align technical direction across disciplines and organizational levels

  • Proficiency in English & German language are required

  • Familiarity with EN 60204-1 and IEC 61010-1 standards

  • Experience with risk assessment and safety analysis using Safexpert and Sistema

Tools

  • SolidWorks experience
