Job Description

We are the people who give possibilities purpose

BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it’s no small feat. It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled, journeyman-level Machinist III to join our precision manufacturing team. In this role, you will program, set up, operate, and maintain advanced CNC machining equipment to produce high-precision components for a variety of applications.

This position is ideal for an experienced machinist who enjoys owning the entire manufacturing process, from programming and setup through inspection and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will also serve as a technical mentor and resource for less experienced machinists.

Responsibilities:

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes using Mastercam and CAD/CAM software.
  • Manufacture precision components while meeting quality, productivity, and delivery expectations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and work instructions.
  • Design and build specialty fixtures to support machining operations.
  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of machine shop equipment, including CNC mills, lathes, grinders, tumblers, saws, and other supporting equipment.
  • Fix machining processes and recommend improvements for quality, efficiency, and tool life.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and support preventative maintenance activities.
  • Mentor and train junior machinists to help develop technical capabilities across the team.
  • Safely operate multiple machines and manage production priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyman-level machining experience or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with Mastercam and CAD/CAM programming.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to use precision measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, optical comparators, and other inspection tools.
  • Proven ability to independently set up, program, and operate CNC equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, train, and mentor others.

At BD, we prioritize on-site collaboration because we believe it fosters creativity, innovation, and effective problem-solving, which are essential in the fast-paced healthcare industry. For most roles, we require a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week to maintain our culture of excellence and ensure smooth operations, while also recognizing the importance of flexibility and work-life balance. Remote or field-based positions will have different workplace arrangements which will be indicated in the job posting.

For certain roles at BD, employment is contingent upon the Company’s receipt of sufficient proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. In some locations, testing for COVID-19 may be available and/or required. Consistent with BD’s Workplace Accommodations Policy, requests for accommodation will be considered pursuant to applicable law.
