Job Title: Technical Information Engineer – Trainee
Location: Portsmouth. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Circa £20,000 depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- The one-year trainee scheme will follow a formal (module based) training programme which aims to provide the opportunity to develop the core skill sets required to become a competent Associate Technical Information Engineer. Training is supplemented with a Lloyds Maritime Academy approved Diploma in Marine Engineering delivered online over 12 months
- Carrying out development activities under strict guidance & support from assigned Mentors, to enable the creation of new technical documentation for Naval systems such as Books of Reference (BRs), and Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs) and amending existing technical documentation, ensuring all information is up-to-date and accurate
- Working closely with Supportability/Design Engineers and equipment manufacturers to gather information including design drawings, in order to fully understand the impact changes, have on technical documentation for a variety of platforms, including T23, T45 and QEC
Your skills and experiences:
- 5 GCSE A*- C or 9-4 (or equivalent) including Maths, English & 96 UCAS Tariff Points (240-point old system), or equivalent in the following subjects; Maths, Business-related, IT, Engineering, Science
- Computer literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products, practical experience of using Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Basic understanding and an interest to develop skills in technical information creation & delivery
- Ability to understand the needs and demands of a diverse group of stakeholders
- Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills to management and peers

The Technical Information team:
Working as part of an integrated team of Technical Information and ILS Engineers, within the Supportability Engineering Hub, you will liaise regularly with Project Engineers and Managers and Designers to understand and incorporate complex capability enhancements to the RN Surface Fleet. You will follow a development plan to prepare you in established authoring techniques to ensure compliance to customer specifications. You will have opportunities to survey ships in Portsmouth and Devonport and grow key skills to prepare you for future positions.
