Job Title: Senior Commercial Officer
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role
Salary: Circa £45,000 commensurate with skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of bids and contracts in support of the BAE Systems Type 26 Supportability Programme
- You will conduct negotiation of proposals with potential customers and provide support to supply chain
- Ensure compliance with BAE Systems policies and procedures together with the commercial aspects of the management life cycle
- You will support continuous improvement and innovation within the Commercial team
- Work with other functional representatives, project teams, customers, and suppliers to meet operational needs of line management and the business
- Act as the Commercial point of contact for internal and external stakeholders with occasional travel to Bristol/Filton to support customer and stakeholder meetings
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Broad professional knowledge of Commercial principles, techniques and practices and their application and understanding of the Commercial role in organisations
- Good understanding of contract terms, contractual and legal frameworks with the ability to identify key contractual risks
- Good understanding of Commercial interaction with customer, finance, legal, procurement, project/programme management, engineering, business development, sales etc
- Confident individual who can ask questions, help develop solutions by collaborating with the team to deliver our critical capability
Desirable:
- IACCM – Practitioner level
- An understanding of the defence sector

The BAE Warship Support team:
The BAE Systems Warship Support team provides support for over half of the Royal Navy surface fleet, as well as supporting numerous ship build programmes. This role is as part of the Commercial team delivering supportability (Integrated Logistics Support) to the wider BAE Systems Type 26 build programme as well as multiple export opportunities.
As Senior Commercial Officer, you will be supporting the Commercial Manager in providing Commercial Support to the programme. The role includes bidding for initial provisioning spares and contract amendments as part of a multi-million pound per year Programme as well as providing Commercial support and guidance to the project teams and customers.
