What you’ll be doing:
The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be the first line of leadership for Mechanical Platform Systems Engineers and deliver crucial ship services and crew life support capabilities for the next generation of Nuclear Submarines.
In this role you will focusing on ensuring the team deliver a safe product. Part of your role will be to coordinate and develop a team of Technical Systems Engineers. As part of a rapidly expanding team, the Executive Board and Managers will be looking to you to cultivate change and help revitalize, and sharpen the current structures, processes and support current programmes
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Ability to build relationships with external and internal stakeholders across all levels
- Passion for mentoring and developing
- Strong Mechanical Engineering and Fluid Systems background
- Strong communication and influencing skills
Desirable:
- Degree level qualification in STEM subject or extensive experience in a similar role
- Chartership is also preferred
- Experience working in Defence or other high risk industries

The Mechanical Platform Systems team:
As the Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be heavily involved with the SSN AUKUS as well as future submarine programmes supporting the design and development of various critical systems. This role is unique in that it is a real step into leadership. You will be helping to drive junior members of staff and offer mentorship to those who need it.
Further training and education is fully supported, and can include specific leadership coaching & courses to help you develop in this role. We offer relocation support across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria
