Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Manager (Platform Systems)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage and lead a team responsible for the design, development and delivery of ship systems, ensuring clear understanding of scope, providing strategic guidance, and advising on best practices to achieve sustainable success
  • Enable programme delivery by planning engineering scope, generating resource estimates and managing the capability profile of your team
  • Responding with agility to emergent programme challenges, working collaboratively across functions to maintain engineering quality and schedule integrity
  • Ensure design evidence, justification and validation meets the required quality standards, is well-documented, and approved by the appropriate stakeholders
  • Guarantee all work aligns with contractual obligations while adhering to company standards, safety protocols, environmental considerations, and local business processes
  • Lead and participate in design reviews and collaborative programme activities, simplifying complex technical arguments into clear, concise, and logical presentations for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Create innovative design solutions within agreed timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks to meet critical project milestones

Your skills and experiences:

  • BEng (Hons), MEng, or equivalent qualification in a relevant STEM discipline
  • Proven track record in delivering mechanical systems throughout the full development lifecycle
  • Extensive experience in applying technical expertise across all stages of the engineering process
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in specifying mechanical equipment and components, such as heat exchangers, pumps, diesel generators, hydraulic systems, and compressors
  • Demonstrated passion and understanding of leadership and management, with relevant qualifications or training considered an advantage

The Platform Systems team:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager (Platform Systems) plays a key leadership role, guiding and supporting the engineering team with a focus on collaboration and growth. This role involves managing team leads on a daily basis, working closely with the Senior Engineering Manager to ensure smooth operations. You’ll also be responsible for fostering the skills and competencies of the team, while overseeing project plans and activities to keep everything on track. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
