Job Title: Legal Counsel – Business Conduct Compliance

Location: Various UK locations considered with travel to Frimley, Surrey once per week / occasional international travel. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing in depth, professional and pro-active specialist legal support across all lines of the PLC business, with a particular focus on compliance issues relating to the conduct of international business
  • Supporting the Head of Business Conduct Compliance in driving an organisational understanding of, and adherence to, the Business Conduct Compliance policies
  • Helping colleagues across all functions and businesses in relation to compliance issue and standard setting across a wide range of company activities, including the engagement and management of third parties, offset and M&A activity
  • Providing training on compliance related laws and associated policy support to various functional and business areas
  • Driving a range of assurance activities in conjunction with the wider Business Conduct Compliance team.
  • Contributing to the wider BAE Systems legal function as and when required

Your skills and experiences:

  • Fully qualified solicitor or barrister able to practice in the UK
  • Solid experience in Corporate Governance and Compliance Law from a reputable law firm or relevant in-house position
  • Proven track record in providing practical guidance and advice to the business, legal, and other departments
  • Exceptional negotiation, influencing, and drafting skills
  • Experience within Anti-Bribery and Corruption law would be highly advantageous

The Legal team:

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be a key member of the Head Office Legal team, reporting in to the Head of Business Conduct Compliance. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders across the business, forging strong relationships and acting as a true Subject Matter Expert in compliance and regulation. Your expertise will be essential in partnering with the business to deliver pragmatic advice and solutions on complex legal matters. Working within a dynamic and respected team, including the Head of Business Conduct Compliance, two other Legal Counsels, a Compliance Manager, a Senior Compliance Officer and two Compliance Officers, you will thrive in an environment that values your practical experience and ability to navigate intricate legal challenges. This role is ideal for someone with solid private practice experience from a reputable firm, or previous in-house experience, ready to take their career to the next level within a supportive and innovative company
