Job Title: Engineering – Continuous Improvement Lead
Location: Portsmouth Naval Base. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on skills and experiences + bonus package
What you’ll be doing:
- Identifying, initiating, co-ordinating and leading delivery of any necessary improvement projects designed to improve the engineering service outputs across QEC, T45, T23 and Hunt classes based in Portsmouth Naval Base
- Acting as the engineering team point of contact for the delivery of all Strategic Improvements to support Asset Management transformation
- Identifying and improving where necessary the interfaces between key stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient interactions between them
- Identifying risks and supporting the development of relevant mitigation activities associated with continuous improvement projects and activities
- Driving the evolution and implementation of policies and processes that will improve capability insertion, configuration control and design change activities, aligning where necessary disparate practices between the various classes, to maximise a common approach to the engineering service delivery
- Complying with SHE statutory requirements, regulations, and company procedures
Your skills and experiences:
Essential skills:
- Previous experience in a Continuous Improvement role, ideally with an Engineering and/or Project Management background
- Good appreciation of Lean and Continuous Improvement principles and change and quality management
- Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels and an ability to influence and work with key stakeholders across team, customer, and supplier communities
- Ability to set clear direction and purpose, driving the team to achieve outputs to schedule, quality and budget
Desirable skills:
- Continuous Improvement related training/qualifications, such as Lean Six Sigma

The Warship Technical Authority team:
Comprising 200+ Engineers, sits within the Asset Management arm of BAE Systems Maritime Services, and plays a key role with supporting a range of international customers, as well as the UK MoD with its Royal Navy Warships located at Portsmouth Naval Base.
As the WTA Continuous Improvement Lead, you will be a senior member of the team and will ultimately be responsible for the successful identification, development, and integration of changes within the engineering team to ensure we continue to provide operational excellence.
