About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Assurance Manager to join our Maritime Sustainment Line of Business based at Garden Island, NSW, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight. This is a face-to-face, onsite role, where you will collaborate closely with teams to drive engineering excellence and project success.

You will be responsible for leading engineering initiatives, ensuring technical integrity, and developing efficient processes across the DDG Class. You will provide expert technical guidance, drive industry engagement, and oversee design reviews to support innovative and cost-effective solutions. Additionally, you will, collaborate with key stakeholders, and play a vital role in shaping the future of engineering within the DDG Enterprise.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support Engineering Leadership – Act as second-in-charge to the Project Engineering Manager, driving the progression and implementation of engineering functions across the program.
  • Ensure Technical Integrity – Provide leadership and guidance to maintain technical integrity, working closely with safety, cyber, platform, combat, certification, and configuration teams.
  • Develop Engineering Processes – Engage with key stakeholders to establish efficient systems and business processes that align with project requirements.
  • Strengthen Engineering Assurance – Develop and sustain Engineering Management Systems and delegation frameworks to maintain compliance and technical excellence.
  • Provide Expert Technical Advice – Offer independent technical guidance across the enterprise, ensuring informed decision-making without day-to-day supervision.
  • Lead Design Reviews – Participate in formal and informal design reviews, providing expert input and liaising with the customer and subject matter experts as needed.
  • Foster Collaboration – Maintain strong communication with all key stakeholders and material subcontractors, ensuring alignment and seamless execution.

About YOU

  • Extensive experience in engineering management, with a minimum of 10+ years of post-graduate experience.
  • Experience working in Defence project environments, bringing adaptability and problem-solving skills.
  • Recognised as a trusted technical authority, providing guidance and expertise with confidence.
  • Degree in Engineering essential (Mechanical, Electrical, or Naval Architecture preferred) and eligibility for Engineers Australia membership. (Essential)
  • Strong leadership and management skills, fostering collaboration and maintaining a diplomatic approach to stakeholder relationships.
  • A team-oriented mindset, with the ability to create an inclusive and supportive work environment.
  • NV1 Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain.
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations.
