As Talent Management Lead you’ll have overall responsibility for Talent Identification and management of the design & delivery of the Talent Management strategy at Atom. You’ll be tasked with understanding business priorities and ensuring there is an effective plan in place to build strong, diverse talent pipelines to meet current and future needs, identifying opportunities and developing insight driven strategies.

As the subject matter expert in all areas of Employer Brand, Succession Management, Attraction and Talent Deployment the role works with the People Business Partner team, Talent Acquisition Lead and Learning Lead to design and drive the talent strategy whist being responsible for the talent identification process, supporting segments to identify employees with potential whilst encouraging robust succession and development plans including the development of an early careers framework and programmes. The Talent Management – Senior Manager is responsible for the Talent Acquisition and Learning teams which are core to the success of Talent Management within Atom.

This role is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 2 days per week onsite in Durham.

What will your ‘typical’ day look like…. (there’s no two days the same in Atom):

Strategy and Planning

  • Drive performance through the creation and implementation of a talent management strategy encompassing talent acquisition, talent identification and talent management to drive performance
  • Collaborate with the Strategy team in planning the skills, capabilities and resource required for the achievement of the strategy and business plan
  • Work with executives to advise on talent acquisition and management tactics that will help to sustain the company’s success
  • Integrate Talent Acquisition, Early Careers and Talent Management Frameworks creating an overall talent journey for Atom employees
  • Co-create strategies with the Talent Acquisition Lead to attract diverse candidates to all areas of the business
  • Develop and promote Atom’s employer brand using key attributes to excel talent acquisition and target top talent, whilst positioning atom as the UK’s best employer

Talent Identification, Management and Succession

  • Develop effective strategies for identifying skills gaps within the workforce
  • Own and manage the Talent Matrix and all resulting talent management programmes which are accessible and meets the needs of the business
  • Ownership of the Succession Planning and management process creating clear and documented future structures including team and individual development plans
  • Identify and select a panel of external training providers, working in line with agreed procurement frameworks, to provide timely

Senior Leadership, Executive and Board development

  • Design, implement and manage a senior leadership development programme meeting regulatory requirements
  • Drive high performance and manage the succession of senior leaders through a detailed programme of development aimed excelling leadership capabilities

Early Careers

  • Scope and implement relevant, value adding programmes including apprenticeships, graduate opportunities, internships and sandwich placements aligned to agreed development and resourcing priorities.
  • Create an annual plan for recruitment of graduates, apprentices based on business needs and strategic outcomes
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition, Marketing and PR in developing creative ways to enhance and promote Atom’s employer brand and profile in the early talent marketplace including external advertising, website and social media to build the reputation as a destination employer to attract and retain the very best early careers talent.
  • Work with ESG building and maintaining relationships with local schools, colleges and universities; acting as a liaison for outreach with industry organisations and attending careers fairs as appropriate to promote opportunities.
  • Develop and implement a structured timetable of development activity and rotational placements for each programme liaising with participants and host departments to ensure smooth and timely transition.

What do we need from you?

  • Demonstrable experience in leading and managing Talent Management including the development and implementation of strategies that support the attraction and retention of employees
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to extrapolate from company plans the key talent issues, develop and deliver a plan to respond
  • A commercial mindset with the ability to be analytical
  • Experience of designing and implementing development programmes
  • Experience of apprenticeship, graduate and early talent development programmes
  • Demonstrable experience in training delivery and evaluation
  • Training needs analysis, design and delivery skills including eLearning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively and confidently with a wide range of people, including staff at all levels within the organization
  • Excellent verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner to suit a range of audiences
  • Experience of apprenticeship, graduate and early talent development programmes
  • Knowledge of learning styles & preferences and also training evaluation methodology
