About the Role
The Mechanical Technician plays an essential role in securing the smooth, reliable and safe performance of terminal equipment. This team member maintains and repairs Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes and other heavy and light terminal equipment, carrying out troubleshooting, diagnostics, routine inspections and corrective work to keep operations running without interruption. With a balance of technical skill, collaboration and care for safety, the Technician contributes directly to equipment availability, operational readiness and a well‑organized workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out maintenance and repairs on RTGs and other terminal equipment, ensuring all tasks meet required standards and safety rules
- Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic work on mechanical systems to quickly identify faults and restore equipment performance
- Execute both routine and corrective maintenance, including mechanical adjustments and replacement of components such as engines, hydraulics and wire ropes
- Submit inspection and monitoring reports as required, ensuring accuracy and timely communication of findings
- Keep workshop and work areas tidy, organized and compliant with HSSE rules and procedures
- Follow up on emergency breakdowns and ensure issues are escalated and resolved appropriately
- Collaborate with internal teams, including operations and technical colleagues, to support effective equipment usage and maintenance planning
- Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and contributing to better maintenance practices
- Maintain a commitment to personal learning and skill development in all relevant technical areas
Qualifications
- High school education with additional vocational or technical training; a diploma in a mechanical field is preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in crane maintenance within ports, mining, steel or manufacturing sectors, plus 2 additional years working specifically on RTG repairs and maintenance
- Strong technical knowledge of RTGs, spreaders and general mechanical systems
- Ability to interpret mechanical diagrams, engineering drawings and equipment specifications
- Skilled in repairing and adjusting major mechanical components
- Familiarity with standard maintenance practices for cranes and heavy equipment
- Comfortable responding to emergency breakdowns and seeing tasks through to completion with quality workmanship
