About the Role

APM Terminals Barcelona is undertaking a multiyear infrastructure and equipment‑upgrade program, including major civil and electrical engineering works in one of the most operationally intensive areas of the Port of Barcelona.

Within this context, the Project HSSE Supervisor plays a key role in safeguarding Health, Safety, Security and Environment standards across all construction interfaces, ensuring compliance, operational discipline, and a strong “Safety First” mindset.

This role requires a high‑visibility, field‑based presence, supporting contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure safe execution of all project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous on‑site supervision to verify compliance with HSSE rules, procedures and project requirements.
  • Lead daily walkthroughs, identify unsafe behaviours/conditions and ensure immediate corrective actions.
  • Oversee high‑risk activities such as excavations, lifting operations, hot work, electrical activities, diving, drilling and heavy‑machinery operations.
  • Review and control HSSE documentation (RAMS, Method Statements, JSA) and audit the Permit to Work system.
  • Support continuous improvement actions and monitor the effectiveness of implemented controls.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and verify readiness of firefighting, lifesaving and first‑aid equipment.
  • Support incident investigations and develop professional, root‑cause‑based reports.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Environmental Monitoring Plan, including waste management and good environmental practices.
  • Maintain strong communication with the Project HSSE Manager, Terminal HSSE Team, Construction Supervision and Contractors.

Lean Culture & Ways of Working

As part of APM Terminals’ continuous‑improvement approach, this role requires:

  • A strong Lean Mindset focused on eliminating waste, identifying improvement opportunities and promoting efficient, safe processes.
  • Active participation in Lean Culture rituals, ensuring standardisation, problem‑solving discipline, visual management and operational excellence in field activities.
  • Engagement in Lean, fostering learning, collaboration and development of practical Lean capabilities within the project team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Accredited Técnico Superior en PRL (Master in OHS or equivalent).
  • Mandatory specialization in Safety (Seguridad en el Trabajo).
  • 3–5 years of field safety‑supervision experience in construction, port infrastructure or large civil‑engineering environments.
  • Deep understanding of Spanish Regulatory Framework (Ley 31/1995, RD 1627/1997, CAE, PSS).
  • Experience coordinating with multiple contractors in dynamic, high‑risk environments.
  • Strong stakeholder‑management, communication and technical‑interpretation skills.
  • Native/bilingual Spanish + intermediate English.

What We Offer

  • Work on one of the most significant port‑modernisation projects in Spain.
  • Growth opportunities in HSSE roles at national and international level.
  • Exposure to complex engineering, maritime operations and project‑execution environments.
