Job Description

APM Terminals

Project Engineering Lead (PEL) – Laldia Container Terminal, Bangladesh

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

About APM Terminals

APM Terminals is part of A.P. Moller–Maersk, an integrated logistics company connecting and simplifying global supply chains. With a network of strategically located ports and terminals worldwide, we develop, own, and operate advanced container terminals that create value for customers, communities, and global trade.

About the Laldia Container Terminal Project

APM Terminals has been nominated by the Government of Bangladesh to develop the Laldia Container Terminal, a landmark greenfield project located downstream of Chattogram Port. The project represents a significant growth opportunity and aligns with APM Terminals' ambitions in greenfield development, automation, and decarbonization. Once complete, the terminal will feature modern quay infrastructure, advanced crane technology, automated equipment, and the capacity to handle up to 1.47 million TEUs annually.

What We Can Offer

At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement means every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers by continuously refining how we work. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Play a key leadership role in the delivery of a strategic greenfield container terminal project.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and industry experts across APM Terminals' global network.
  • Work on technically complex infrastructure, automation, and port development initiatives.
  • Gain exposure to international stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and operational experts throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and coordination of all project design phases from concept development through Issued-for-Construction packages.
  • Manage internal and external consultants, contractors, suppliers, and engineering stakeholders to ensure timely and compliant project execution.
  • Ensure designs meet APM Terminals standards, regulatory requirements, operational needs, and applicable international engineering codes.
  • Support procurement activities, including preparation of tender documentation and participation in technical bid evaluations.
  • Oversee design interfaces, risk management activities, quality assurance processes, and design change control.
  • Coordinate closely with construction, permitting, and operational teams to ensure constructability and execution readiness.
  • Monitor design progress, milestones, and performance while providing regular reporting to project leadership and governance forums.

What We Are Looking For

  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently put customers first, lead by example with respect for people, deliver results with integrity, and drive continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in infrastructure design, ideally involving container terminals, quay walls, breakwaters, or related port infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and consultant teams through complex project design phases.
  • Strong understanding of permitting processes, international design standards, engineering best practices, and design governance.
  • Ability to translate operational and business requirements into practical, technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Experience supporting design, construction, permitting, and approval activities for large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Master's degree in Engineering Management, Construction Management, or a related field is considered advantageous.
  • Previous client-side experience and exposure to container terminal construction projects are desirable.
