Job Description

Job Description:

Ready to join one of our Airbus Programs in Spain?
AIRBUS offers an internship (curicular practicum) program aimed at students who are in the last year of their degree with the main objective of acquiring professional skills through the development of a project in the company.

What do we offer? : Internship program + Bachelor’s Degree Final Project (TFG).

Mission: You will prepare a final year training project that will allow you to complete your official studies.

About practical training:

  • 6 months of curricular practicum internships at AIRBUS from February to July 2026
  • Part time: 5h / day - 25 hours per week (8h-13h)
  • Tutor assignment for continuous monitoring

Final project (TFG) to be carried out by the student:

The student will join the Advanced Simulation for Rear Fuselage and Empennage (RFE) team. The team is responsible of the advanced structural simulations and contribute to the structural process and methods automation for the RFE of Airbus commercial aircrafts. The new team member will have the opportunity to develop his/her understanding on Airframe structural design solutions of commercial aircraft and aware himself in an overview of current and future tendencies.

The student who joins the team will perfom a project including some of the following tasks:

  • Development of new advanced methodologies for structural analysis
    • Virtual Testing simulation capabilities development
    • Novelty structural justification processes
  • Structural justification of real airframe designs (composite and metal)

Implementation of Continuous Damage Mechanics Simulation Methods for Predicting the Structural Capability of Metallic Elements in Aeronautical Structures

1- Introduction and Motivation

Technical description of the problem and the context of its application within the industry.

2- Study of Potential Solutions and Selection

Technical solutions and associated theories for characterizing behavior as documented in the literature.

3- Development of the Selected Solution

Theoretical and technical development of the adopted solution, coding, and implementation

4- Verification and Validation

Verification of the implementation and validation through correlation with structural tests (coupon and design/assembly detail).

5- Use case:

Application to a real structure, virtual testing, and correlation with experimental results.

6- Conclusions and Future Developments

Below it is explained the expectation for the project content:

After introducing and explaining the needs and motivation, the technical problem will be precisely described, along with its context of application within the industry.

A literature review in addition to a familiarization with the current tools developed within the team, will be conducted to study potential solutions and improvements. A rigorous selection process will determine the most suitable solution to meet the needs.

The student will propose a technical solution and associated theories for characterizing material behavior, aiming to implement current state of the art technologies from literature into the development framework of the team. The solution will be implemented to be used with FEM simulations in ABAQUS or other numerical simulation software.

The implementation will be verified, and validation will be performed by correlating structural tests (coupon and design/assembly detail at the subcomponent level).

After verification, the solution will be applied to a use case involving a real structure, with virtual testing and subsequent correlation with experimental structural test data for the component.

Finally, conclusions will be defined, and a plan for future developments and studies will be outlined.

Basic knowledge of Python and FORTRAN programming is recommended. Basic knowledge of finite element simulation (FEM), particularly in ABAQUS, is also advantageous.

Required skills #AirbusDiversity

As a successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Studying Degree in Aerospace Engineering
  • English: min. level B2 (C1 desirable)
  • Spanish: min. level B1
  • General knowledge in structural analysis, continuum solid mechanics
  • Skills valued: programming (Fortran, Python, Matlab,..), FEM modelling and postprocessing
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Team spirit and great collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in international environment

Why should you apply?

- Foster your professional development with a strong academic background and an in-depth collaboration in AIRBUS projects.

- Expand your network within the aeronautical industry.

- Meet our people working with passion and determination to make the world a more connected, safer and smarter place.

- Be part of our diversity and teamwork culture that propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Are you interested? Apply and make it fly!
