VIE Germany - Quantum Software Development Engineer (d/f/m)

This position supports the software development activities within the Quantum Technologies domain at Connected Intelligence of Airbus Defence and Space. The engineer will contribute to the implementation and prototyping of quantum-related software components, as defined and prioritized by the domain technical lead.

The role is execution-focused, translating architectural and system-level requirements into working software prototypes, simulations, and proof-of-concept demonstrators.

Definition VIE

The Volunteer for International Experience (VIE) program is an international program sponsored by the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment, open to Airbus to offer young professionals the opportunity to have valuable paid work experience abroad in a technical or business function. We are looking for highly motivated graduates aged 18 to 28 years, who are citizens of the European Union (all E.U. nationals, plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein). Your tasks and responsibilities

  • We’re looking for a candidate with experience in development and testing environments.
  • Develop and implement post-quantum cryptographic (PQC) algorithms and protocols (e.g., NIST PQC standards: CRYSTALS-Kyber, CRYSTALS-Dilithium, FALCON) in embedded and constrained environments.
  • Support hardware-software integration for quantum-secure systems, including FPGA-based implementations of cryptographic primitives.
  • Develop proof-of-concept (PoC) demonstrators for quantum-secure communication use cases.
  • Produce technical documentation, test reports, and development logs in support of project deliverables.
  • You will interact with a group of colleagues with wide experience in the areas of AI and 5G/6G, and interact with colleagues of Airbus Defence and Space as with external partners.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Hands-on programming experience in C/C++ and/or Python and/or Rust, particularly for systems-level or embedded development.
  • Basic familiarity with FPGA development (VHDL, Verilog, or HLS) is a plus.
  • Ability to work within technically complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Structured, rigorous approach to software engineering and documentation.
  • Deep experience in testing and prototyping.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Language: English (fluent level).
