Tactical Communications Lab Test Engineer

Job Description:

An opportunity for a Tactical Communications Lab Test Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Getafe (Madrid).

The selected candidate will join the Flight & Integration Test Centre, working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment supporting all major aircraft and defence programs in Airbus Defence and Space (such as Eurofighter, A400M, C295, Eurodrone, SIRTAP, Helicopters, and FCAS).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The main tasks of the jobholder will be:

• Design & Specification: Analyze technical documentation and design requirements to build coherent Rig Test Cases, procedures, and test specifications for Rigs and validation environments.
• Test Preparation: Create necessary pre-test data sets, including simulation requirements, test scripts, initialization files, and tactical scenarios.
• Execution & Integration: Execute test steps on Virtual Testing environments, Subsystem Rigs, and Global System Integration Rigs (operating tools like MaTE, AIDASS, or datalink simulators), as well as supporting on-aircraft ground and flight testing.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Assess system behavior, analyze test results, and generate comprehensive test reporting documentation.
• Problem Management: Identify, declare, and manage Equipment and System Problem Reports throughout their lifecycle, performing deep-root cause investigations.
• Tooling & Process Management: Manage lifecycle control tools (DOORS, Octane, FTNet) and specify custom test tools (decoding, emulation, automation) including their qualification.

• Education: BSc or MSc degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Radiocommunications, Industrial (Electronics) Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience: 2 to 6 years of experience in system testing (hands-on or hands-off rig testing) in Tactical/Mission/Safety Communication systems or similar technologies.
• Technical knowledge:Deep knowledge of COMMS Systems Under Test (Tactical Datalinks like Link 16/22/VMF, SATCOM, V/UHF Radios, Comm Servers) and test support tools.Hands-on experience with Lab Equipment and Simulators (e.g., 1553 Databus Analysers, TIGER, MIGATO, LEGS, AIDASS, LabView).Requirements interpretation, test scripting, and systems behavior assessment.
• Languages: Advanced level in both English and Spanish (written and spoken).
• Soft skills: Proactive problem solver, open-minded, team player, autonomous, with strong networking skills and ability to meet strict milestones.
• Valuable / Requirements: Active NATO security clearance (or eligibility to obtain it) and eligibility for ITAR and National Export Control authorizations.
