Job Description:

The Cabin Design Engineer supports the development, customization, and continuous evolution of aircraft cabin and cargo interiors/payloads for airline customers. Working under general direction at an intermediate to advanced professional level, the engineer autonomously performs routine to moderate levels of engineering design, analysis, and data integration from initial conceptual phase to final product installation.

Key responsibilities are balanced across evaluating supplier 3D/2D design solutions, managing part number steering and configuration data within complex PLM databases, troubleshooting installation issues at the Final Assembly Line (FAL), tracking critical supplier engineering deliverables, and authoring customized specifications to meet airline requirements.

Meet the team:

Our Engineers have the privilege of working on complex, highly engineered machines and are involved at all stages of the aircraft life cycle, from product development to manufacturing and direct support to our airline customers. If you’re interested in designing, creating, and testing the present and future of Airbus products across the globe, join our mission to connect the world.

Your working environment:

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

How we care for you:

  • Financial Rewards: Competitive base salary, incentive compensation which may include profit sharing schemes, retirement savings plan and the ability to participate in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (“ESOP”)
  • Work/Life Balance: Paid time off including personal time, holidays and a generous paid parental leave program.
  • Health & Welfare: Comprehensive insurance coverage including medical (traditional and high-deductible health plans), prescription, dental, vision, life, disability, Employee Assistance Plan (“EAP”) and other supplemental benefit coverages.

Ensure correct technical effectivity, interchangeability, and configuration tracking across product variants.
  • Compliance & Certification Review: Apply extensive technical expertise to review, evaluate, and secure engineering compliance documents from suppliers to support airworthiness approval. This includes checking Certification Plans, Test Plans, Test Reports, and Declarations of Design and Performance (DDP) for technical accuracy and alignment with program requirements. Utilize Approver and Check technical signatory effectively.
  • Product Evolution & Change Control: Author, steer, and coordinate complex engineering change packages (Modifications/MODs) which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Supplier Technical Coordination: Act as a key technical contact to collaborate with cabin interior suppliers. Review, evaluate, and integrate supplier-provided drawings, interface documents, and 3D DMU models.
  • FAL & Manufacturing Support: Provide engineering guidance and troubleshooting for moderate to complex physical and systems integration issues discovered on the shop floor or at the Final Assembly Line (FAL). Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to resolve installation non-conformances.
  • Project & Deliverable Management: Guide or lead the successful completion of projects while establishing team requirements and setting commitments for self and internal teams. Independently drive suppliers to ensure high-quality and timely delivery of engineering documents, such as test plans, test reports, and certification data.
  • Technical Documentation & Customization: Lead the preparation and/or modification of complex technical documents and customized airline specifications with high quality and efficiency. Effectively prepare and deliver detailed, complex presentations inside and outside the organization with limited guidance.
