About us:

Within the Space Systems division of Airbus Defence and Space, the Simulation and Modelling department (TSEAS3) consists of teams in the UK, France and Germany. The department provides a central competence for all the activities associated with the design, development and support of simulators and test benches used for satellite functional verification. The use cases for these solutions include:

  • verification of the Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) algorithms and performance

  • development and validation of the on-board software

  • validation of the functional chains and equipment interfaces of the space system during the Assembly Integration and Test (AIT) campaigns

This role is based in the UK team, where we support Telecommunications, Earth Observation, Navigation & Science missions such as OneSat, the Rosalind Franklin Mars Rover and Solar Orbiter.

We have a number of new and innovative projects including ARIEL that will contribute to the discovery and characterization of exoplanets and FORUM, which is part of the European Space Agency (ESA) Earth Explorer (EE) mission programme addressing critical Earth science issues.

What you will be doing:

All of our simulators mimic the functional behaviour of a spacecraft, so that they are suitable for validating key elements of the complete system. The main software language we use to develop our simulators is C++ and the final simulator will run on a Linux workstation. Therefore, you will need to learn and develop these key skills, also used within many industries.

You will learn what it takes to write and maintain high quality, reliable software all the way from requirements definition through to software design, coding and test. You will learn all the software development methods and practices required to ensure high quality standards are followed and built into the solutions you produce.

While the development of our simulators requires the use of a varied set of software programming languages and tools, the challenges lie in the design and concepts where innovation and an ability to think outside the box will be a strong advantage.

Finally, it is worth noting that the projects you will work on will technically challenge you, as you will be contributing to engineering and science missions that have never been done before.
