You will receive second to none training, obtain a BEng (Hons) degree and experience working in a broad variety of placements, where you’ll be mentored and supported by our experienced team.

As an Engineering Degree Apprentice, after around 9 months completing your vocational foundation diploma, you will join one of the engineering teams at our site in Filton. You will work alongside our world class engineers and experts to gain a broad exposure to the engineering elements of our Commercial Aircraft Programmes.

We’re looking for Apprentices interested in studying a degree in Electromechanical Engineering to be able to specialise in the integration of mechanical, electronic and electrical engineering systems, to pioneer the future of aircraft systems. There are career opportunities in the following departments (selection process after the vocational foundation diploma):

● Windtunnel

● Landing Gear Systems

● Fuel & Inerting Systems

● Electromagnetic Hazards and Lightning Direct Effects

● Landing Gear and Fuel systems testing including SAF&Hydrogen

You are given real freedom in your placements. Often apprentices do placements with different teams in their target department but also in a variety of other engineering departments, allowing you to develop your technical knowledge and soft skills so that you have a broad basis for your future career. During these placements, you will continue to develop your skills and technical knowledge through a combination of academic study, on the job experience and training.

What you will be doing:

Our Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship offers a full degree with no fees, plus vocational training with a regular salary. Airbus is leading the way with this unique 4 year programme through which you will achieve a BEng (Hons) in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, EAL Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence), EAL Level 4 Diploma in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (Development Competence), and work towards a professional IEng level award.

As an Apprentice Engineer the type of placements you will undertake may include:

● Aircraft Architecture and Integration

● Design

● Simulation

● Stress and Fatigue

● Systems Installation Safety Analysis

● Research and Technology

● Certification

● Ground and Flight Test

● In Service Support

● Digital (e.g. coding, AI, Machine Learning, Data Analytics)

You will also develop the following:

● Project Management through placements in Chief Engineers or other departments
● Business and Financial knowledge

● Leadership Skills through working on projects with a broad range of people

Requirements:

In order to be eligible to this apprenticeship, you must have a minimum of:

  • 104 combined UCAS points or above, made up of A level Grade B in Mathematics, plus a minimum of C in one of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Computer Science, Design and Technology, Electronics, Engineering, ICT, Further Maths, Music Technology, Physics or Statistics, plus a further A level at C or above

OR

  • (BTEC) Diploma: You must be studying one of the following: Aeronautical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing in Engineering, Construction and the Built Environment, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Engineering, Land-based Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations and Maintenance Engineering - minimum grade DMM or D (Advanced Manufacturing Engineering)

OR

  • T Levels – Minimum of Merit overall in Engineering and Manufacturing, additional qualification in Maths at Level 3 preferable but not essential

AND

  • GCSE Maths and English (Language and Literature) – Minimum of Grade 5/B

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Naturally curious and excited to explore

  • Excited to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Able to manage problems and communicate effectively to resolve them in a fast paced environment

  • Passionate about Aerospace and shaping the sustainable future of the civil aircraft market

  • Submit your CV stating your grades and if they are predicted or achieved

Important Information:

GRADES: If you are on predicted grades, your offer will be conditional to achieving the required grades before the apprenticeship start date.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).

Our apprenticeship roles do not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas & Immigration to enable sponsorship of migrant workers.
