Regional L&C Counsel (including export control) - India

Position reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance India (operationally) and to Head of Airbus Export Control (functionally)

Purpose

Airbus Group is committed to conducting its business with honesty and integrity, in accordance with all local and international laws and regulations. L&C supports Airbus in providing legal, compliance and corporate governance support to the business. L&C also supports export control globally. This position is located in Bangalore.

Main Responsibilities

The purpose of this role is to support the organization by rendering legal and compliance including export control support across all divisions and functions, ensuring compliance to various laws and interacting with internal and external stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • The position entails providing legal support to functions/ divisions and compliance management including investigations and trainings.
  • Drafting, vetting, negotiating various strategic and non-strategic commercial/ corporate agreements, with both domestic and international third parties, all sorts of corporate contracts.
  • Analyses of new laws and regulations for potential impact on group policies and procedures and advising on varied legal issues.
  • Provide Export Control support by working closely with export control manager and other stakeholders and rendering advice to all businesses in the region covering Airbus Commercial, Airbus Helicopters and Airbus Defence and Space, in a one-roof approach
  • Support the implementation of the Airbus Export Control Program in the region by giving practical advice and guidance on relation to the different elements of the programme, including implementation of policies and procedures, providing training to employees exposed to the Export Control risk and undertaking local risk assessments.
  • Ensure the export control regulations to which Airbus is subject including local, European, UK and US export controls and EU/US/UN/local sanctions are understood and implemented locally.
  • Support investigations into potential breaches of export control regulations as required.
  • Animate and support the local network of Export Control focal points.
  • Travel as required to support local EC teams (team meetings, business support, etc.)
  • Work in close relationship and alignment with the L&C team based in India & Globally.

Required Educational Background and Experience

  • Min 3 years of experience working in a multinational environment advising on in export control matters
  • Minimum 8 years of overall experience working as legal counsel in a multinational environment;
  • Good working knowledge of Fr, EU, German, UK, US and local export controls;
  • University educated;
  • Strong leadership and communication skills; sound business judgment; ability to appropriately involve others in consultations and decisions;
  • Excellent writing skills required to write and edit policies and procedures, reports and memorandums;
  • Strong relationship building, networking, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • High degree of initiative, credibility, independence, integrity, confidentiality and trust;
  • Critical thinking, empathetic, strategic mind-set, problem solving and planning skills, strong business acumen and judgment, thought leadership, consensus building
  • Multi tasker/ highly organised and delivery oriented
  • Ability to quickly earn the respect of senior management in order to be credible and effective in this complex and constantly-developing environment,
  • Languages: Commercially fluent in English and local language; French is considered a plus.
