The department "Mechanism Products Germany" in Immenstaad is looking for a

Mechanism Drive Electronics (MDE) System Engineer for mechanism development (d//f/m)

The Mechanism Products Germany department develops and supplies products for space mechanisms (https://www.airbus.com/en/products-services/space/equipment/mechanisms). As an MDE System Engineer, you will work in an interdisciplinary team with international customers and suppliers through all phases of a project- from tendering and development to commissioning and final delivery of the product.

  • Your tasks and responsibilities

    • Act as Development Responsible for complex Mechanism Drive Electronics (MDE) solutions. Technical management, monitoring, and steering of external hardware subcontractors, ensuring compliance with technical specifications
    • Responsibility to derive, write and manage technical requirements and detailed specifications for MDE from upper-level or subsystem assembly specs
    • Analyze external supplier proposals, author technical evaluations and support Tender Evaluation Boards (TEBs).
    • Inject MDE expertise into commercial and institutional proposals to secure new programs
    • Support the preparation and technical definition of the department’s mechanism technology roadmaps
    • Dynamically support multiple space programs in parallel, providing a fast-paced environment with a global technical overview across various architectures
    • The role offers the opportunity to execute hands-on activities (e.g. BB, EM) in laboratory conditions
    • This role offers a pathway to take over or develop into the Product Owner position for Mechanism Drive Electronics (MDE) with technical leadership and responsibility for broader product lifecycle, roadmap, and strategic definition

    Desired skills and qualifications

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a relevant engineering discipline
    • 6+ years of professional experience in high-reliability electronics design, experience with space-mechanism drive electronics or precision motor control is an advantage
    • Direct experience in hardware design and architecture in compliance with ECSS (European Space Standards) and MIL-STD (Military Standards) incl. knowledge of electrical component selection
    • Working knowledge of VHDL (Virtual Hardware Description Language) to supervise developments and implementation according to ECSS processes
    • Proven capability to technically steer external subcontractors
    • Experience to author and/or review electrical design data packages (e.g. PDR (Preliminary Design Review), CDR (Critical Design Review), MRR (Manufacturing Readiness Review) milestones)
    • Knowledge of motor control electronics design for Stepper and Brushless DC (BLDC) motors, including commutation strategies and motor control methodologies
    • Experience integrating standard space communication protocols, e.g. MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire, and CAN / CAN-Bus
    • General knowledge of position feedback system/sensor technologies (e.g. digital/analog encoders, hall sensors, switches, potentiometers) and closed-loop architectures (e.g. PID, micro-stepping strategies)
    • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink for the mathematical modeling is an advantage
    • Fluent in business English (spoken and written) and German skills preferred
