In order to support “Electronic Warfare Ground Support Solutions”, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

Lead Systems Engineer - Ground Support System (d/f/m)

If you are looking for challenging tasks within a development team and you are interested in systems and software related to military aircrafts, you should apply for a position as Systems Engineer in the engineering department.

We develop and maintain mission support and planning systems for our flying platforms A400M, Eurodrone, Eurofighter, Tornado and FCAS at the Airbus-sites in Manching/Germany and Getafe/Spain.

Our mission support products comprise the generation and evaluation of mission-specific data, provide interfaces to the airborne systems and support the analysis of the mission execution. The key challenge includes the execution of all operational requirements of our diverse customer base while considering the technical capabilities and constraints of our aircrafts.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Define system development logic consistent with system development standards.
  • Elicit and validate system/product requirements whilst considering the complete system life-cycle.
  • Design and define possible architectures considering the functions and other requirements (constraints).
  • Lead analysis (Analysis of characteristics and performance) to translate customer requirements, avionics systems requirements into system specifications.
  • Define and manage system interfaces requirements .
  • Play an important role during customer project / technical meetings, in order to effectively support the team and the project lead.
  • Support the management of suppliers for developing, testing and delivery of quality products that meet the requirements
  • Lead verification of the system/product implementation and its interfaces, on the real or virtual system.
  • Lead impact analysis of any design change request during the entire product life cycle.
  • Foster collaboration within our project team and with involved stakeholders - internal and external
  • Actively support the continuous improvement of our products, projects and processes


Desired skills and qualifications

  • University Engineering Degree or Master in Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent, and minimum of 5-7,5 years of experience in Systems Engineering (preferable in Aeronautics or Military sector)
  • Good knowledge of the entire product life cycle, from requirements analysis to system integration and verification.
  • Working experience on one or more of the following specialty areas: self-defensive systems, radar systems, and electronic support systems.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Warfare principles and interest in mission data for Electronic Warfare Support
  • Familiarity with Atlassian software development and collaboration tool set (Jira and Confluence)
  • Working knowledge with engineering tools such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect (System modeling).
  • Good command of English, and German is an advantage
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel within Germany and abroad
