Job Description:

An exciting opportunity for a Landing Gear ATA32 Engineer has arisen in Airbus Filton focusing on DMU & Installation for Landing Gears across all programmes. The position is within the Installation Team (1YLXI), who are responsible for the supporting installation of Landing Gear Structure, Hydro-mechanical and Systems equipment for all programmes from delivery and throughout the life of the product In-Service.

This role will provide a varied learning environment specifically focusing on the DMU & Installation of the variety of Landing Gears. You will report to the Head of Installation and be part of the Landing Gear Transverse Team (1YLX). You will be working with other ATA32 Engineers, signatories and Landing Gear vendors to ensure the development of technical solutions integrated with LG CoC and other Aircraft ATA chapters.

A large part of the role is also involved in supporting the Final Assembly Lines and MAP teams for all programmes, and as a result some potential for travel.

Key activities of this role will include:

  • Ensuring all activities are carried out in compliance with all relevant policies for design and installation, ensuring that the delivery of each activity meets safety and technical needs with robust adherence to system processes.
  • Creating and updating the interface and installation definition between the landing gears and airframe, and between the landing gears and equipment.
  • Interfacing with Specialists and technical signatories to ensure compliance to certification requirements and methodology for example, quality checks and conducting clearance studies using Catia kinematic models to demonstrate clearance between landing gears, dressings and equipment. To then author the results and obtain approval.
  • Ensuring adherence to budget and schedule for each activity; managing and mitigating risks / opportunities and communicating in a timely manner to stakeholders and customers.
  • Working with sub-contracting firms providing support to the internal resource within IYL.


The successful candidate will be expected to :

  • Ensure all engineering activities under your leadership meets the necessary Safety, Time/Cost/Quality standards and are delivered in line with commitments.
  • To manage a variety of tasks against a priority order, as agreed with the Senior Engineers.
  • To manage and coordinate the installation inputs to In-Service, FAL and Flight Test tasks.
  • To develop towards technical signatory.
  • To support offload of activities to offload suppliers.


Skills :

We are looking for candidates with the following potential skills and experience:

  • Successful leadership of engineering tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to interact effectively within local and transnational teams, and with customers and suppliers.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and pro-active approach to team working and a willingness to exercise technical leadership as required.
  • A strong background in Engineering.
  • A background in DMU and / or Installation - Catia V5 experience and toolset access (PASS, VPM) would be a benefit but is not essential.


This role has been graded AP, but could also be a development opportunity for those currently in a lower graded role.
