Job Description
Job Description:
Internship Title: Probabilistic analysis and Uncertainty Quantification for F&DT
Brief:
- F&DT analysis has traditionally been done with deterministic analysis and conservative scatter factors. In an attempt to move towards risk informed strategy, advanced probabilistic approaches should be developed.
- Need to develop computational methods for quantifying and managing the impact of various uncertainties (e.g., material properties variability, load to stress variability, manufacturing tolerances, etc.,) on the fatigue and damage tolerance assessment of airframe structures.
Job scope (core activities):
- Literature review of Probabilistic approaches including UQM (Uncertainty Quantification & Management) application to fatigue use-cases
- Identify use-cases starting with simpler ones to apply probabilistic assessments
- Identify key characteristic parameters and their variability. Perform Design of Experiments & Surrogate modelling
- Generate probability distributions of the most influencing input parameters and perform simulations to get probability of different outcomes, helping in risk assessment and decision-making.
- Compare with experimental distribution and document the outcome of the study.
Pre-requisites:
- Good knowledge of statistics, probabilistic methods and mathematics
- Basic knowledge of strength of materials, finite element methods, structural fatigue
- Ability to derive broad conclusions from research articles
- Hands on experience with using FE tools Abaqus / Nastran
- Good programming skills
- Good analytical and reasoning skills
Tools: Python, Abaqus / Nastran
Qualification:
- Graduate/Post graduate (Structures / Applied Mech. / Mathematics / Statistics / Mechanical / Aero / Civil)
Soft skills:
- Ability to work independently
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility & adaptability
